So outside, at least, is not being covered by the same creature. I'm not sure if that's a better sign or a worse one.

On the one hand, that means that we have two to worry about -- one that may cause us to freeze if the sun stays gone much longer, and one that's making it nearly impossible to live in the building. On the other hand, that means that the one in the building isn't powerful enough to do both... and outside is fairly safe, as far as the darkness goes.
