Effect Room: Amnesia

[Today, quite a few of the rooms seem to have taken a liking to inflicting some stupefying amnesia. One might still remember bits and pieces of the past, their name, their family, and common knowledge...or one might forget everything. Either way, the effect only takes place once the room has been exited, and then its poor victims are left to wander the halls in their confusion.]

((ooc: so basically, at some point when walking out of a room, your character is inflicted with amnesia! mingle, tag around, etc.~ Characters who tag into other threads don't have to be affected by the amnesia, only the ones making the thread starters do. Effects last as long as you want.))

[Since her head decided to randomly empty itself, the pink haired girl who no longer remembers her name had been standing around in a daze. But that could only last so long, especially when she had no idea who any of these other people were either.

So she takes a methodical approach: searching herself for clues. She does have some really weird stuff. Pulling out her sword, she scrunches up her face at it in a way that clearly reads "What the hell?"

With a sigh, she slides it back into its sheath and then fiddles with the other thing attached to her waist, which seems to be a small box of some sort. Maybe she's carrying some ID in here? Oh, nope, it's just some weird trading cards.]

Hm....

[Seeing her standing around searching her possessions, Ryou pauses before he approaches. It's a little weird to see the confused look on the girl's face, but maybe she just forgot something important? Well, it doesn't matter. Politeness is politeness. Ryou gives her a friendly wave as he comes over, smiling.]

Good afternoon, Vaughn-san! It's been a long time!

Ah! Hullo!

[The woman looks up eagerly toward Ryou. There's no recognition on her face, but friendly smiles and waves are a very good thing to be met with right now. Although the sound of 'Vaughn san?' which might be her name is a bit odd.]

What was that you just called me? Do you know who I am?

...eh?

[She must have been joking... right? Right...? Did he misremember her name? But no, he's sure he knows it... and that question was kind of odd even if it was a joke.]

Of course I know who you are. You're Harriet Vaughn, right?

Well, don't ask me. I haven't got a bloody clue about anything past the last minute or so.

[it doesn't seem to have dampened her spirits any, though.]

So you're telling me I'm called Harriet? How do we know each other?

Eh?!

[She has amnesia? What? Why? Did she hit her head on something? No, she'd be grumpier from the pain, he's sure. This is bad.]

Uhm. I've only really met you once before, but I'm friends with a couple of your roommates. Are you feeling dizzy or anything?

[Is she? She looks around, but well... the room isn't spinning or anything. So she shakes her head.]

I feel all right, I think. There's no pain... Just a whole lot of nothing.

- But roommates! I have roommates, that's great! They've got to know something.

Of course they do! [Okay, that's something he can do.]

I can show you to your dorm, if you like. So you can ask them!

Ahh, thank you! I was afraid I'd be alone here...

There's a lot of people who live in your dorm, so you don't have to worry about that!

[He smiles brightly at her, starting off towards the dorms.]

Though after you've checked in with them, you might want to go to the nurse. Losing your memory so suddenly is probably a bad thing.

[She hadn't thought of that. Amnesia apparently included forgetting the causes of amnesia, such as brain damage. Touching on subjects she knew of from common knowledge seems to bring the memories trickling back. Amnesia, nurse, treatment...

But now that she just remembered that, she's going a bit pale. Or, well, paler.]

... As in a school nurse? It'd ... be better to go to an actual hospital, wouldn't it?

It would be better, but we don't have that luxury. There isn't one on the island, and there's no way off of it.

[Wow, she totally forgot everything.]

It's fine! She's patched up serious injuries and stuff before. I can attest to that.

I see...

[This sounds anything but fine. Serious injuries? She doesn't have anything like that, does she? She's not sure what the nurse can do for her, and apparently they're stuck somewhere. She has a lot of questions about that, but no idea where to begin. Maybe she'd better just let her roommates help her out.]

... By the way, what was your name?

Ah! Sorry! I forgot.

[How could he forget something so simple?]

I'm Ryou Bakura! It's good to meet you. Uhm, again.

Well, I'm certainly glad I met you, er, Ryou...

[Harriet awkwardly pronounces the name, following him around as she glances around nervously. An island that they can't leave... she can't imagine why she'd be in a place like that. The environment feels stifling all of a sudden, and the blankness of her mind is easily filled with fear. At least the innocent looking boy doesn't seem like he'd try to take advantage of her lack of memories.]

... Before we get there, may I ask...what sort of person am I? I don't know how I should act around my roommates. And these things I'm carrying aren't helping me figure it out.

[the sword looked disturbingly real, and the cards... what are they even? She slips her hand into the box again, idly drawing her Airknight Parshath. Looking at it stirs something within, but she can't pinpoint the feeling. Somehow, it's like the card is looking back at her...

And then suddenly, his deep voice calls out gregariously in her mind.

Lady Harriet! How may I be of assistance?!

She is thoroughly startled, needless to say.]

AHHHH!

Ah-! Are you alright?!

[The answer he was going to give is cut off sharply by her cry and he whirls to look at her, worriedly. The look of shock on her face as she stares at that card makes it pretty clear what startled her. Oops. He should probably have warned her about the cards.

Awkwardly, he reaches out a hand to grasp her by the arm, steadying her.]

It's alright, Vaughn-san! The cards won't hurt you.

[He thinks, anyway. It's probably not safe to check out the cards in this state.]

Wha- buh-

[Harriet looks between Ryou and the card, his words taking a moment to register. When they do, she pulls her arm back, looking grumpy and embarrassed.]

I! ... I know that. What's it gonna do, give me a papercut?

[She doesn't mean to glare at him, really. But she's assuming he thinks she's crazy. Because to be honest, that's what she thinks.

Inside her head, Parshath is alarmed by her scream and trying to figure out who he needs to cut. It's not helping. At all.]

It could do a lot worse than that.

[He draws in a sigh, looking away. It's going to sound crazy however he puts it. If she hadn't picked up the card, he might have gotten away with never telling her - after all, memories come back eventually, right? Unless she had developed one of those conditions where her memories wiped themselves periodically or something. And it's not like the Rose guys wouldn't explain it to her.]

You're a duelist, Vaughn-san. You... summon monsters from cards to fight for you.

Oh, is that all.

[It does sound crazy. But on the other hand, he's not the one with voices in his head. ...Presumably. If he's able to rationalize what she's going through, then maybe she'd better let him. And yet, Harriet still feels skeptical.]

Why do I do that? I don't think I want to fight anyone...

You don't need to! ...now, at least.

[He rubs the back of his head awkwardly. What does he even say to this sort of thing?]

I'm not sure I can explain it without sounding like a lunatic.

Well...

[The woman slumps her shoulders.]

Is it all right if I ignore this guy then? I don't really know how to deal with this.

Now, now... don't look like that. He's a friend of yours, so he's probably worried. Just tell him you're alright, and put the card back in the pack. It should be fine.

[Patting her on the shoulder, he steps back again to give her some space.]

You and your friends... all have them. The cards, I mean.

The talking card is my friend... [She repeats experimentally, and as expected, it sounds absurd to say it. And yet, now that she has, she feels kinda guilty for her reaction to him.] All right, sorry. I'll just do that.

[Sorry, talking card! I didn't mean it! I'll be fine, so let's talk again after I sort things out. And back in the deck he goes.]

... My friends can help me remember him, right?

I think... there's others, too. Lots of them, in your deck.

[He really hopes she can be reminded. Amnesia sounds kind of terrifying, and it's worrying to see her looking so lost. Ryou nods brightly, resuming the walk towards the dorms.]

I'm sure of it! Your friends seem to be really close, so they'll surely be able to jog your memories on that front.
