Effect Room: Amnesia

[Today, quite a few of the rooms seem to have taken a liking to inflicting some stupefying amnesia. One might still remember bits and pieces of the past, their name, their family, and common knowledge...or one might forget everything. Either way, the effect only takes place once the room has been exited, and then its poor victims are left to wander the halls in their confusion.]

((ooc: so basically, at some point when walking out of a room, your character is inflicted with amnesia! mingle, tag around, etc.~ Characters who tag into other threads don't have to be affected by the amnesia, only the ones making the thread starters do. Effects last as long as you want.))

[So hard... not to laugh...]

It's too bad, isn't it? Without them, there's no way to send either you or Eleanor home...
whiterosefoes: (Isolation and bad feelings)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2013-12-31 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
I don't even know where 'home' is...

[but still, it's a troubling notion. What is she supposed to do?]
dontknowjack: (So... why are you here again?)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-12-31 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
England, I do believe. From your accent and certain things you've said in the past.

[Jack seems entirely nonchalant.]
whiterosefoes: (the flowers were drugged!?)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2013-12-31 04:48 am (UTC)(link)
Right. England. That tells me a lot. I suppose I'll just scale Big Ben and look down, I'll obviously know it when I see it. It's probably on fish and chips lane.
dontknowjack: (What are you planning Henry)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-12-31 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
...what is this 'fish and chips lane' you speak of? It is not somewhere I know of. Perhaps your memory is not as long as it seems.

[They didn't have fish and chips back in the fifteenth century, Harriet. Chips weren't even invented yet!]
whiterosefoes: (... Sorry.)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2013-12-31 04:58 am (UTC)(link)
I made it up to be funny, [she mumbles, dropping her head into her hands.]
dontknowjack: (And who the hell do you think you are?)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-12-31 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
...

[Dammit, this isn't as amusing as he thought it would be.]

Don't worry so much. I was teasing you. The Rose Cards were never really lost at all. You'd given them to someone else in our group and forgotten about it.
whiterosefoes: (Hate you Simon)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2013-12-31 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
Oh.

[She glares at him a little - don't do that to her, asshole! - But that's kind of a weird story, even if it does sound familiar.

She blinks.]

I'd ask how I could have possibly done that, but given the circumstances...
dontknowjack: (Oh just shut up)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-12-31 05:07 am (UTC)(link)
The blackout affected you badly. You were sleep deprived.

[Her glare didn't have much of an effect at all...]

I wonder if you were perhaps cursed, Harriet Vaughn... It seems odd for such a complete memory erasure to occur without a reason. You don't remember insulting any witches lately, do you?
whiterosefoes: (What's the meaning of stonehenge?)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2013-12-31 05:12 am (UTC)(link)
... I don't know. Is that a thing, witches?

[he was saying all that stuff about devils and darkness, so maybe...]

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-12-31 05:15 am (UTC)(link)
[He stares at her suspiciously.]

It is a common belief, back in England. Superstitions run rampant, and not all are wrong.

...you seem not to be missing any clothing. Have you any wounds upon your person?
whiterosefoes: (Here I am)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2013-12-31 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Was that true, what you were saying about devils? I didn't think I believed in any of that stuff... but I also wouldn't have believed in card magic, if they hadn't started talking to me first.

Well... Nothing hurts, so I don't believe I'm injured. I haven't checked, though.
dontknowjack: (Oh just shut up)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-12-31 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
What do they teach you in the future...? It is a strange world to imagine, where one's natural state of existence is to believe in nothing and leave one defenseless against the crueler forces within the world.

[The derisive words are coupled with an irritated look that dwindles to merely careless.]

The devilry of man is often worse than the devilry of actual devils. But it is true that such things exist... And not always in the forms that we imagine them. Call them what you will. They are not creatures of our world.

If neither your blood nor your clothes have been taken from you, your chance of being bewitched is minimal.

whiterosefoes: (So we're actually -storming a castle.-)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2014-01-03 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
I have no idea what they teach us in the future. Though, I suppose it must be something, since I have all these conceptions. They must be trained psychological responses... It's odd, isn't it? You'd think, without memories, that I'd have a blank slate.

At any rate, I shouldn't have made light of it. If you want, we can start again. [though, she's still a bit nervous, with him telling her she had to sacrifice something.]

If not bewitching, then I wonder. Could it be a medical condition of some kind...?
dontknowjack: (how does my hair stay like this)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2014-01-03 07:03 am (UTC)(link)
...you believe yourself to be addled in the mind? That truly is a fearsome concern.

[Now he's worried. Stupid 'friends' and their stupid 'problems' making him feel the stupid 'concern'...]

I know nothing of your medical history, or of what sort of person you were before you came here. I had not met you prior to my arrival here. If your brain has become addled, then I know nothing of it.
whiterosefoes: (What's the meaning of stonehenge?)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2014-01-03 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's right. Who would know? Maybe I could ask Elly, or Rosenkreuz... if I have a condition, they're the most likely for me to have told.
dontknowjack: (You know this hurts right?)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2014-01-03 09:21 am (UTC)(link)
True enough. Elly and yourself are bosom friends; she would surely know if you had such a problem in the past. Rosenkreuz... might know. I know not.
whiterosefoes: (MALIK.....)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2014-01-03 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
Then I'll ask them when I see them. [she pauses, then mutters] If I recognize their faces.

... Do you call her that too, or did I rub off on you?
dontknowjack: (What are you planning Henry)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2014-01-03 09:39 am (UTC)(link)
They're not difficult to recognize. Eleanor is the only girl who can enter this place other than monsters... and her hair stands out. While Rosenkreuz... Rosenkreuz is definitely noticeable. He wears his blue dragon armor constantly, and there is nobody else who can fix you in place with just a stare so effectively.

...most methods of address are merely habitual. I am not so familiar with Eleanor as to use that version of her name while interacting with her. But since you used it, it suffices.
whiterosefoes: (What's the meaning of stonehenge?)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2014-01-03 09:48 am (UTC)(link)
[Harriet rests her chin in her hand, trying to imagine them. She can almost remember the shape of Eleanor's face, and the image Jack paints of Rosenkreuz certainly creates a good outline.]

Dragon armor and an arresting gaze? Sounds... er... intense.

[...she can't imagine falling for someone that serious.]

I thought it was funny, that's all. Half of the time you go around using my full name, and then Elly is just Elly.

[It seems she's just latching onto whatever she can.]
dontknowjack: (Trouble a-brewing)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2014-01-03 09:56 am (UTC)(link)
...heh. 'Harriet' is not easily reduced to a nickname. Unless I were to start calling you 'Harry'...

[Skipping over the Rosenkreuz thing entirely because c'mon, he can't make that guy sound appealing to Harriet.]

What would you prefer I called you?
whiterosefoes: (MALIK.....)

[personal profile] whiterosefoes 2014-01-03 10:00 am (UTC)(link)
...No, that's not what I meant - I mean, you were adding my last name too, sometimes. Like you're a parent or something! I'm just glad you don't know my middle name. Then again, neither do I.

Anyway, just Harriet is fine, I think. Harry... that isn't necessary by any means. [she's definitely making a face at that.]

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2014-01-03 10:03 am (UTC)(link)
If you wish, I will try to keep it to 'Harriet'. It's an old habit. Things sound that much more dramatic when you read out their full names, you know!

[He memorized Henry's many future titles just so that he could use them if he needed to be dramatic.]
