Duel 002: Peaceful Days! The Fluffiest Training Montage Commences

[It's a bit of a pain, being in a school with no teachers.

Ryou Bakura isn't the type of kid who really likes being too active; he's about on the level of most ordinary teenagers. But after being laid up for so long with the burns to his arms and leg, not only is he extremely restless, but he's sure even his metabolism won't hold up much longer, with the amount he eats. That's why, after checking to see that Henry isn't home to take him up on that training offer, he's decided to try treating this like school and taking an hour or so to do his very own gym class, all by himself. It'd be easier with teachers, but... he doesn't have a choice right now.

Most kids probably would just take the break and be lazy, but right now, Ryou's working hard. Apart from the occasional break, he can be found pretty easily in the east wing, dressed in gym clothes and doing everything from running laps on the track field to climbing ropes.

...though that last one is more like 'falling off ropes'. Stupid mats... they don't cushion that fall at all. Hopefully nobody's dumb enough to stand below him.]

[Time for a banana and some water, he thinks.]

[Malik's glad to hear that, and he even starts to break into a rare smile when Bakura suddenly looks away.]

[He reaches out to grasp Malik by the wrist, tugging him over so he can lean on him.]

...?! [The gesture, in all its desperation, surprises him.]

The soul fragment within my ring is deteriorating. The darkness within it... it's corrupted it. But earlier, while you were sleeping... we spoke.

I wonder... if it's right. My strength was always born of hatred.

My soul fragment...? That's news to me. Last time I checked, I didn't notice anything strange...but...

[He pauses a moment, not sure what to say. Was forming a bond like this weakening, or strengthening their characters?

He could make points for both, and probably never come up with a clear answer.]

If my soul fragment really is corrupted, it's probably not in its right mind anymore. Tch...what a pain. There's no way for me to contact you from a distance with the Rod now...

It's possible to make a new one, but I wouldn't trust the Ring to host it. But there's few things I keep close enough to me to hold for all time.

Maybe I should get into jewellery or something. That way I have a less corruptable host for the fragment.

[Malik had already thought about where to put his next fragment, but he politely waited for Bakura to finish first...]

I could put a new fragment into Ryou's body. That should work well enough, and even if he isn't wearing the Ring...in the case of an emergency, I could just force his body to fetch it.

...Hm? Why not? And why wouldn't it work? [His lips twist subtly in response to that blunt rejection.]

I made a contract with Henry, if you remember. That means we can't listen in on conversations where Ryou doesn't have the Ring, and your soul fragment would be able to hear everything, as well as interfere with the free time he bargained so boldly with.

On top of that, I don't like sharing this body with you.

...Tch. You have to make everything difficult, don't you? It's not like I can't hear those conversations anyway, if Harriet is nearby...

[But fine, he'll accept the insult. Malik instead sets his sights on Bakura's leg.]

What about your dagger?

I don't care about your puppet! I've told you before. Even I have ways I like to win and ways I don't like to win. Betraying an agreement like that is bothersome.

I don't let Ryou wear it if I'm not around. He's too clumsy. But maybe the sheath would be enough.

[He sinks back onto the couch, chuckling lightly to himself.] And that includes putting my fragment into your dagger. The sheath is disposable. The knife isn't.

[Getting up off the couch, he strides for the VCR and ejects the video, tossing it into the garbage.]

It's the sheath or nothing. I don't care if every soul fragment you have disappears.

You were perfectly fine with the idea of sealing me in the dagger earlier, what's the problem now?

[He's not even sure why he bothered to bring that up. It just made him angry.]

The problem is you're acting like a smug bastard! I'm not some servant to be ordered around! If I say you can have something, you can't go further and demand something more!

I offered you the sheath. If that's a problem for you, then we can do without the long-range contact.

[Sometimes it was easy for him to forget that Bakura wasn't as easily pushed around as Rishid or the Ghouls. It was frustrating...not getting his way.

This is why he had never asked before sealing part of himself in somebody...or something.]
