Kai had covered a lot of ground and to his disappointment, still hadn't found 'Jem anywhere. He didn't feel her either, and he'd learned to trust that sense a while ago. She just...wasn't here. So now he sat at a picnic table in the courtyard with a soda and candy bar, still untouched beside his hand, while he played with a few (bigger than normal) marbles he'd made out of ice. He usually didn't use his magic for stuff like this, but it was keeping him distracted.
Not that being in this place with no explanation wasn't enough of one.
[ooc: Kai should be talking to people, but if left up to him it might take a while. Feel free to come stare at say hi to the magic user.]

It's not so bad when once you get used to it.
[Turning the ice-marble in his fingers, he inhales, and then blows out a small puff of fire to melt it entirely.]
It's almost fun...slicing and dicing them.

"Didn't do it often enough to get used to it." Which is partially a lie. He had done it plenty, but it'd never sat well with him. He prefered his food already cooked and unrecognizable.
Kai made a face as his ice marble was destroyed. Oh good, some of the people in this place were turning out to be more fun than he'd expected. He paled slightly at the slicing and dicing comment. Nightmares, what nightmares?
"Maybe if you're a chef."

[He taps his fingers on the table.]
I'm not a chef. [Naoki smiles, seeing the other boy pale. Then, suddenly, he seems to be conflicted and loses that devilish look.]
So, how did you make these? [Flicking the remaining water off his hand.]

"Magic. My dad taught me. It was one of my mom's favorite spells. She was planning on teaching me when I got older." He stopped the explanation there and raised a hand, letting a small blizzard of ice crystals form on his palm. A few seconds later they condensed into an awkward looking cube.
"I'm better with the spheres."
no subject
Well, if I ever need some ice, I know who to call.
[Not that Naoki couldn't just switch out for a different Magatama and do it himself, but he was just being funny.]
So you're still human, then?

Kai tossed the cube onto the table, where it skidded a bit before stopping near the edge. He frowned at the question. That was easy enough, right?
"...Yeah. Pretty much." After all, a lot of people back home could do magic. It was just when the Corridors were brought into it that things got a little wonky; not that he'd been able to get them to work here yet. Just as well, he supposed.
"What about you? I mean-" He gestured to Naoki's face. He wasn't exactly sure how to ask without being rude about it.

The gesture to his face doesn't seem to effect him.]
I'm a demi-fiend. [Or the Demi-fiend as most seemed to refer to him as.] For now, anyway. Soon I'm going to distinguish myself from you miserable humans entirely.

"Were you always?" He crossed his arms, shifting his weight a little. He really hoped this wasn't going to turn into a fight. The cube being crushed that easily was unnerving, though he did his best not to show it.
"How're you going to manage that?" He probably didn't want to know.
