MINGLE: What's that in the sky? It's a bird, it's a plane--no, it's Malik up to his usual shit.

[For anybody awake mid-afternoon on the 22nd, outside or caring enough to look at their windows, they might notice a blinding light accompanied by the sudden appearance of a God.

It seems to be one hell of an escape attempt, the golden dragon's wings splayed wide as it sent forth a seemingly never ending stream of fire towards the sky. But something stopped it, an invisible wall of sorts, curling those flames back as if hitting the inside of glass dome. The great beast stops after awhile, starts again, and then disappears in the same bright flash from whence it came.

Pinpointing a location is hard, but whoever seems to have brought the creature about appears to have been at the cliff side behind the school. Of course, they were long gone by the time anybody got there... ]

((ooc: so, this is basically a reaction mingle, for anybody who's interested! since the event would be visible to anybody who cared to look. tag around with each other and so on~ Malik, Harriet, and Bakura won't be around the area anymore, but they still might tag around depending, and the odds are greater if it's a post-summoning starter, since they'll be back in the school a little while after.))

Put away the rest of your deck for now.

[Henry folds his legs underneath him, sitting down on the ground.]

Spread out those five here, between us.

[Ryou, enjoying the feel of floating, levitates briefly before kneeling beside the spirit.

Bakura nods, sliding the rest of the deck into its custom stack and tucking it into his pocket. Spreading out the five cards (and checking the wind first, to make sure it's not too bad) he sits back, curiously.]

This feels like a séance or something...

Now... I want you to close your eyes and focus intensely on these cards. Find the one of these five that has the weakest connection to you and remove it, but be absolutely sure that it is the weakest one.

The weakest one, huh... Heh. I get it.

[Closing his eyes, he lets his mind focus on the cards. To find the weakest one... the one with the least-strong connection. He finds the two strongest easily, disregarding them in favour of feeling out the other three.

The weakest of those three. The one he has the most frail connection to. It's harder to find, even narrowing it down.

Not the Demon.

Then which one?

His finger rests against Ha Des.]

This one.

[Drawing it away from the other, he replaces it in his deck.]

Good. Do it again, one at a time, until there's only one card left between us.

[The Charmers are watching, quietly and intently, apparently enraptured by this.]

[Ryou watches the spirit in fascinated silence.

Again, he ignores the two strongest, removing the Earl and the Demon quite quickly. But those two are harder. His hand hovers over the two, wavering between them for a little time.

His aura flares up suddenly, as one of the cards begins to glow in response. This one has felt oddly close to him since he first received it, though he doesn't know why. He frowns slightly, then reluctantly removes Necrofear, leaving only Diabound behind as his aura fades.]

Done.

[During his deliberation, Lyra has returned with the deck she was sent to fetch, disappearing back into spirit form with her sisters once Henry takes it.

...Interesting. The card that he picked... it's got a strange look about it, and an even stranger feel. Something about it makes him... uneasy. Very uneasy.]

Then the first part is done. Remember that card, but replace it for now. It's Ryou's turn to choose.

[Bakura nods, reclaiming the card and sitting back as Ryou takes the deck from Henry.]

...When the hell did Ryou make up a new deck?

[Ryou ignores the question pointedly, focusing on his task. Hm... there's a few that seem to call to him. He's not as good as the spirit when it comes to feeling things from the cards, but what Sibyll said the other day still rings in his head. If the spirit has power, then he can surely access it. The spirit had said it himself.]

We put it together some time ago. I had always intended to teach him how to duel like this; it would be vital to know if he decided to come back to England with me, after all, wouldn't it?

[Henry turns to watch Ryou work quietly, the Charmers temporarily retreating into their cards to make sure that they don't end up confusing him.]

Relax, and breathe... and take all the time you need.

Un... I'll try.

[Working systematically, he goes through the deck one by one, gently setting aside the cards that don't work until he has a few strong-feeling ones. But from there, it's harder. Seven become four. Four become two. And at last...]

I got it!

[Ice Master, huh? Who would have guessed.]

Diabound for Bakura, and Ice Master for you... all right. So we know which cards have the best connection.

Now comes the harder part. You have to call to them, not on them. The Deck Leader armor is borrowing their power without bringing them into existence -- it's certainly far more difficult and requires their cooperation and lending to work, which means you have to ask permission.

In our style of dueling, your monsters are your partners as well as your servants, and your Deck Leader is the one you must be the most tied to. Try to reach out and speak with her, Ryou. Get to know how she feels, the sense of her.

Un... I'll try.

[It sounds impossible for him, but he knows it can be done. Henry and the others did it, after all... so even if it feels silly, he'll try it.

After all, this isn't summoning. He's just trying to contact the monster, not to bring it forth. But it's to his surprise that a voice breaks through his thoughts.]

I'd volunteer the Ring's power to help, but I don't think you need it.

[Bakura seems to be talking to the air, but it's obvious that he's directing it at his host. His attention swings to Henry, suddenly.]

Besides, it'd probably mess it up, right?

It would. Our dueling requires the use of the magic already present inside of us. Strengthening it through whatever means you choose is acceptable, but it must be your magic. I imagine, through contact with the Ring, Ryou's is already strong enough to be able to do this on his own... and you, as well.

[He looks to Ryou, trying to read the teen's face to guess at the success. It should be just fine... after all, they had done a little practice with this before. But the one thing he knew about these monsters was that they could be very unpredictable.]

[Strong enough to do it on his own... He can do it. Henry's guess about the Ring is right. The magic it carries irreparably affects the holder.

With that thought to relax himself, he finds it easier.]

Tch... I'm not worried... About either of us.

[His only acknowledgement to Bakura is a nod.]

Can you hear her, Ryou?

Un. This is incredible...

[Ryou's voice is filled with surprise. It's faint, but it's there, the resounding voice of the ancient spirit. But it's harder to speak aloud while focusing on this. Odd... for such a cold spirit, it feels warm, speaking with it. That's right... Ice is both protection and danger. It both traps and guards, freezes and shields. It's kind of fascinating...

Is that so? You don't seem like an unkind spirit at all, nee-san. You're really friendly!
Hehe... is that right? It's been a long time since I've spoken to a human.
I'll talk to you all you want, no matter how this turns out. We're friends, right?
Friends... humans are so quick to make friends.
You called to me. That's why I chose you. So I think... we're friends. If you want to be.
I think... I would enjoy that, little snowflake. ]

[Henry smiles, falling silent to let them talk. His fingers go down to his deck, feeling out the warmth of the Dark Magician card and closing his eyes.

After a little while of this, he speaks again, looking to Ryou. He wonders if it will really be this easy... but Ryou did have a habit of winning people over. It worked on him, after all.]

Whenever you feel it proper... ask her if she'll lend you her power. If she'll be your partner.

I will!

[That's right, nee-san. I wanted to ask you something. It's okay if you don't want to, but I'd be most grateful... And it'd mean I'd be able to talk to you more easily, too, I think.

And so the negotiations continue, just a little longer, before he smiles and opens his eyes, giving Henry a firm nod.]

[That was easier than he could have hoped. But now came the hard part.]

Now that she's lent her power to you... you have to take it into yourself, to make that armor and open the summoning to you. But you have to do so while being careful not to draw too much and hurt yourself, or draw her too far into your soul.

Focus deeply, until you can make a spiritual connection with her. Not a feeling, but a magical one, that you can "touch," in a way. When you have that, imagine the armor on yourself, to give you a framework.

...u-un. I'll try.

[His voice belies his lack of confidence, but he does his best to bite that back. The second-worst thing he could do in this is to falter. Blacking out everything else, every annoying sound or feeling of discomfort as he sits cross-legged on the ground, he holds the card in his hand and tries to focus.

This time, it'll take quite a while. His mind keeps trying to wander, and he has to keep pulling it back to the focusing. Too many worries, too many awkward thoughts. He's never had to concentrate this hard on something before.]

[Henry understands. Does he understand. He was a child when his mother began his training, and this was only a part of it. A wandering mind, that uncertainty, and many other things... yes, he knows what Ryou is feeling.

And as such, he does the same thing that Margaret did for him. He remains completely silent, eyes closed, and not interrupting. But still there, if needed, in arm's reach if it came to it to snatch away that power.

He believes in his son... believes that Ryou is strong enough to do this and pure enough to bond with a monster in a way that he could trigger such a thing so soon.

He just has to trust him.]

[For once, Bakura doesn't interfere either. Though he's bored stiff waiting for the boy, he lies on his back (in spirit form) with his hands linked behind his head, staring up at the sky and mulling over his thoughts.]

[His training with Jack has helped a little, made it easier for him to open himself up to something like this. But it doesn't help with the most difficult parts of this. All it does it make his side of the connection easier to open.

The focusing takes almost all the mental strength he has, taking an ungodly amount of time before he even comes close to the level needed. Everything else has to be shut out. Everything has to be worn away. It's almost agonizingly slow and so full of frustration that he has to stop over and over, only to start again.

But then, something seems to happen. It's not a conscious change. Like the sudden give in something that has been pushed relentlessly, something bends. Something changes. After an absolute age of effort, his mind simply switches into silence and calm. It's like sleep, but he knows he's awake. There's simply nothing else but the cause of his focus. He reaches out slowly in his mind and touches something cold but gentle, firm and strong and strange, but familiar.

A chill inside of him heralds the feel of that connection. Something is flowing between them now. Something given... and something taken. It's almost painful - no, it is painful, he realizes dully. Those channels of magic within him have opened for the first time, and it's like the energy flowing into him is burning him from the inside with its coldness and power. And he can't stop it, he can't stop his mind from calling it in-]

Nn...

[No, he can't give rise to panic. Gritting his teeth, he throws all of his focus against it, forcing the flow of energy to slow. It's pure instinct he's going by now, forgetting the instructions in favor of damage control. It has to work in synchronization. Not forced, but not uncontrolled. Like a natural dam, controlling the flow of a river. Letting in only as much as is needed at any one time... and preventing the build-up from getting too high to be controlled.

And...

Switch. He breathes a sigh of relief as he manages to gain control over the flow of it, preventing it from flooding him. How long did it take? He doesn't know. It feels like a lifetime.

Absentmindedly, he makes a note that it was probably not a good idea to work with a monster that strong so early.]
