Effect Room: Amnesia

[Today, quite a few of the rooms seem to have taken a liking to inflicting some stupefying amnesia. One might still remember bits and pieces of the past, their name, their family, and common knowledge...or one might forget everything. Either way, the effect only takes place once the room has been exited, and then its poor victims are left to wander the halls in their confusion.]

((ooc: so basically, at some point when walking out of a room, your character is inflicted with amnesia! mingle, tag around, etc.~ Characters who tag into other threads don't have to be affected by the amnesia, only the ones making the thread starters do. Effects last as long as you want.))

Hoh? You have an interesting view of things.

[Watching him with disinterested eyes, Bakura lets his thoughts drift a little. Seeing Malik in the same state he had been reminds him of the careless manner in which he'd acted back then. They really were fundamentally different people, weren't they? It's eerie to think... If they hadn't come here, none of this oddly mundane existence would have occurred.]

Oi, Malik...

[What is this sentimentality that's settling in? Tch, how annoying...]

When's your birthday?

[Malik crosses his arms and watches the three cakes cook, a little impatient as always as he does.

He looks up at the question, wondering what this is all about.]

December 23rd...what's it to you?

... [Closeby, then. He's not sure of the days, but it has to be getting on into winter from the cold front that's been going on lately. Looking away, he speaks in an offhand manner, annoyed with himself for being this sentimental.]

It won't be exactly the right date, but if you want, we could pick a day soon and Ryou and I could... do something for you. Make a cake and have a little party with just the three of us, maybe.

[He doesn't know what they do on birthdays, dammit.]

Ah. [He blinks, and somehow he hadn't expected that when Bakura asked. Malik's stoney gaze cracks with a small smile.]

Sure. I haven't done anything for my birthday in...a while. [Since he left the tombs, actually.]

[Bakura returns the smile with one of his own before sipping at his drink again.]

It'll be the first time I've done anything for anyone's birthday.

Well, you know what they say. There's a first time for everything.

[He grins at the cheesy line. and flips his pancakes.]

You don't remember your own birthday, do you? Maybe we can pick a day...or use Ryou's.

Ah... that's right. Ryou's is the second of September. [Swinging his legs idly, he mulls it over.]

From what I know of the past me... My family's been dead since I was pretty young.

[Fifteen years before, the thief king had said... and then he'd given his age recently. It was likely that even he didn't remember.]

I think... It's probable that nobody's ever celebrated my birth.

Then let me be the first.

[Malik's not sure if the idea of a birthday really meant anything to Bakura. In all honestly, it didn't matter much to him either, but it felt like a nice thing to say. Although he does have to wonder, when was the last time he ever did something just to be nice, for the sake of being nice?

There were his goals to free his family, but that was different. That was important. This was trivial, and yet as trivial as it was, it felt important to say.]

[It doesn't really mean anything at all. Especially in this stage of his existence, age has ceased to be important, and birthdays are just days. But the intent behind it is what has meaning to him. It stirs up those warm feelings once more.

A soft smile graces his lips as he slips off the counter, meeting Malik's eyes on an almost level plane. It still bugs him that the teenager is taller than him, but at least it's not by much.]

I'd like that.

[Malik grins in return, showing off those white teeth of his. And then, gracelessly, he plops the first three pancakes onto a plate and holds it out for Bakura.]

[By the time Bakura's finishing up, Malik's plopping two more onto his plate. He takes the third for himself and sits down to eat it as he waits for more of the cakes to cook.

They were pretty sizable things, and nice and sweet and fluffy too! Not bad, even if Malik's first batch ended up a little over cooked, the second was near perfect.]

[He mumbles thanks around the pancake in his mouth, setting to and devouring the latter two as well.]

Oi, these are pretty good! You sure this is the first time you've made these?

[Malik finishes what's in his mouth first before talking, and he also goes to check on the other pancakes he has cooking.]

Well I've seen Ryou make them a couple times... But I'll take the compliment. Keh heh!

If you picked this up just from observing, I'm impressed.

How do you think I learned to play duel monsters?

[Granted he did read up on the rules and whatnot, but observing was most of what he did until Battle City. Even then, he'd mostly bossed others around when he played.]

Sometimes it's interesting. You know I grew up in a tomb. I had to pick up everything I know about the outside world by observation, and reading...

Besides, it's good to be familiar with those around you. You never know who might turn their back on you, or prove to be useful--oh! The pancakes are done.

[Malik dumps two more pancakes onto his plate, and the third onto Bakura's. His last batch of batter is up and in the pan a few seconds later.]

[Thoughtfully, he tucked into the new pancake, wolfing it down.]

[Malik digs into his own food a bit before answering. He nearly finishes both his pancakes before he gets around to it.]

DM? Oh, right. A Dark Master. Keh heh, well that's why I wanted to play Monster World. We should still do that sometime...
