[Do you know what happens when you put a confused Serb Yugoslavian expatriate in the middle of a strange building in a strange place while he's in the possession of his favorite carbine rifle? He skulks through a hallway quietly, looking for a way out.

Niko nears a window with his back to the wall. And off in the distance? That jungle? That sure wasn't Middle Park. Not long before he heard something that sounded like the most fucked up war-zone he's ever been near. More rushing fire, less bullets. So he's just playing it careful until he finds some sort of damned map.

First he finds a soda machine, though. And that soda machine is not a Sprunk soda machine. He ventures closer, pokes it with the gun as if that's going to help anything, and moves to look behind it as if he's searching for the mechanism for a bomb in an obviously fake piece of inexplicable equipment. Surveillance maybe?

He's pretty sure he's not in Liberty State, anymore.]

Oh, here we go. [Traces of his Balkan accent in those sarcastic sounding words he goes back around to the front of the soda machine, not creeping along for the time being and with his rifle lowered at his side. He's ready to hop behind that thing defensively though.]

How many is there of "us". [He motions around generally.] Aside from the man speaking behind the box and the angry rhinoceros that was with the food.

[Niko is so elegant when referring to bossy women.]

[Luke can tell. He snorts a little at the second description. He's not going to argue its accuracy, that's for sure.]

Hard to say. I see new people every day, but I tend to keep my head down. Probably around a hundred? [It didn't seem like that many, but now that he's saying it out loud, wow. This place keeps busy.] Maybe more.

[At this point, Niko slings his rifle, his expression bewildered.]

A hundred. A hundred people.

[He is shocked about this.] For how long does this happen?

I don't know. I've only been here a couple of months. [Three, actually, but he's not keeping track.] But when I first got here I got the impression from people that it's been going on for a while.

And the person doing this hasn't appeared to all? Not to nobody?

[That's a double negative, Niko.]

[It's okay, Niko. You are in a judge free zone.]

She speaks over the loud speaker every once in a while to spout some useless bullshit. You can talk to her, but I think that's just an excuse for her to piss us off. It's a waste of time. That's pretty much the extent of her "appearing".

[He throws up his hands.] Noted. [He doesn't like to waste his time, and if he can't get to someone, he's not going to try anything until he can get to someone.]

You see cameras or anything around here?

[A good half of his suspicions about the soda machine are in that question. He even half gestures to it as he asks.]

[Luke snorts.] You'd have to find her first.

[He's been doubting if she's even on the same island, to be honest.]

Not...that I've ever noticed. [Kind of an odd question, but it has him thinking:] Which is weird, because she seems to know what we're doing all the time.

[At least he got that impression from her announcements.]

[Niko gives the soda machine another suspicious scan. But after that?] It is probably not in here, I don't think. [But he's not at all surprised they're being watched. Not remotely.]

And if there have been 100 people milling about, not so much that goes- [he splays his fingers out] -boom.

[Luke raises a brow.]

Lot of cameras and exploding vending machines where you come from?

A lot of exploding anything in my life in general. [He holds his hands up as he resigns himself to it.] And normally I'm not so paranoid about the cameras but the last woman I go out with was a secret agent. Even the things I am meant to stick my dick in watch me. The vending machine is as likely a suspect as any.

[But he seems resigned now that's probably not the case.]

[That little unexpected admission throws Luke off a little. He has to hold back a laugh, the end result being a cross between a snort and a chuckle.]

Fair enough. [The reporter in him is a little curious as to what this guy gets up to that he has secret agents and shit exploding all around him, but the apocalypse survivor in him learned to stop giving a shit. So he doesn't ask.] You run into anyone able to explain the deal with this place yet?

[Aside from the random kidnapping and crazy intercom lady, of course.]

[Niko genuinely doesn't consider himself very interesting anyway.] I know enough to know that I am mostly shit out of luck?

[He shrugs a little comically. That doesn't say much, but everything else is just confusing so far.]

[Hey, Niko's not totally safe from questions. Maybe at the moment. But Luke's curiosity is likely to eventually get the better of him.

Luke bobs his head lightly.] Yeah, pretty much.

I'm talking about the building itself though. The rooms in the Northern wing, for example.

I have heard a little bit, but ah... not much.

[He winces at that, nose wrinkling up under his heavy brow because he's guessing that's not going to be good.]
