ANNOUNCEMENT 002

[Wherever you are, whatever you're doing, you will hear the loud screeching of a microphone through the speakers before it dies down. Not long after, a familiar husky voice blares through said speakers.

Although her tone is somewhat pleasant, she manages to keep her authoritative tone as well.]

Good afternoon. [There's a brief pause.] You've all been quite busy, haven't you? It's, hm...interesting to watch, to say the least. But do keep the property damage to a minimum, will you? It's awfully rude to smash people's property on arrival, don't you think?

[Despite that warning, she manages a soft (if a bit ominous) chuckle.]

That being said, I hope you're all well rested. A good rest means a good grade, after all~.

[There's another burst of feedback before the announcement comes to an end.]

Well, I'm sure it might be strange but I should hope that you yourself will consider this an opportunity for a little down time. Being forced into war or being part of a military agenda is no laughing matter. Such a condition as PTSD is terrible...to think so many deal with such a trauma.

[He of course grew more serious at those words. Pegasus was not a man to take such discussion lightly. And he's not naive enough to not be aware of such things.]

I think part of the reason why I wanted to spread this game around the world was to initiate a form of peace. You'd be surprised at how unifying a single game like mine can really be. I'm sorry to hear that in your world that doesn't seem to be the case.

[Pegasus hardly approved of a Bureau that would take advantage of someone like that. Entertainment was a far better alternative than all-out war or a state of chaos for that matter.

In some cases duels have been used to settle matters between men rather than bloodshed. Pegasus was proud of that fact. It was better to channel one's anger in a healthy matter lest it lead to a path of self-destruction for all parties involved.]

It rather depends on how good you are at trapping or outwitting your opponent, or in some cases how powerful you are. It could be quick, or far longer...Skill as well as technique can be a measure in determining who will lose or win but given the sheer number of cards there are as well as deck types out there the strategies employed can be infinite, honestly. Some duelists prefer, for instance, a Trap or Spell-card based deck that could essentially disable your opponent from drawing out their more powerful monsters, or to remove their ability to fight back altogether. It rather depends on what kind of person you are, and that is often reflected in one's deck.

Some duels end a lot more quickly than others, based on the differences in strength, ingenuity, and luck of the two duelists in question. It's a little like a form of chess with the platform being far more physical, but there's a lot more to it than that.

It is and it happens a lot more than people are willing to admit. [ In a matter of seconds, Leo's overall demeanor turns somber. ] It's not just the patient you have to worry about, either. Their family, their friends,... they're all at risk unless the person gets help that sticks. You can't predict the events - what will trigger them. Too many variables from person to person. And sometimes when you do figure it out, it's too late.

[ He glances down at his glass, turning and twisting his wrist to watch the liquid roll. Pegasus is right though, it really isn't the case back home. War broke down the system, caused chaos all over the world. Milvallen at least has this skeleton of a structure - Altambra is lawless. And without some kind of hand, people will give in to their basic instincts.

While he gets the idea and approves of the man's optimism, Leo can't see something like this game causing any real difference. It might be the first step some people need, a vent of sort, but you can't just turn off instinct and it's been proven through the years that people want to fight. Hell, the only reason humans made such an improvement where cybernetics and nanomachines are concerned is because their world was on the brink of collapse. The chemicals left over from warfare began to corrupt the ecosystem and people, mutating or breaking their DNA. It was that instinct, that need to survive, that pushed humans forward. Nothing else.

But he won't deny there's people out there - honest, innocent people like Jeannie and the memory of Stella and Ondine - that want that peace. They just need a voice and platform to share it.

He looks back up for the middle of Pegasus's explanation, eyes glued to the man. He gives the occasional nod here and there, mostly to show that he's following the conversation. ]

... So what's the difference between a trap and a spell? They sound similar.

I am not nearly as familiar with such a condition as you yourself are, Mister Leo nor do I claim to be particularly knowledgeable in the subject. Yet, I do understand the harm that is caused from the events are quite difficult to move past unless appropriate measures are taken. Even then, who is to say if the damages can truly be reversed?

I recognize there is long-lasting effects that can devastate the individual or the individual's friends and family, as you say. I do not approve of a system that would ignore the signs. Yet all too often, that is what happens...Yet, I do have to apologize, for I feel that such a subject is a sensitive one and I did not mean to cause you to remember painful memories. If I did indeed so, it was not my intention and, that is, I am sorry for it.

[While his experiences with trauma and grief were different, Cyndia's death had left a deep scar on him that would never fully heal. True, his view of the world and of the pains in it do perhaps come from a different perspective but it's not that he cannot understand them. No matter the condition of a person or the traumas they'd experienced through life, the scars would always show themselves for what they were. But with help, and time, one could hope that they would find the light again.

Pegasus shifted but did not stray from Leo's gaze as they spoke, growing quiet when listening and then speaking only when it was his turn to do so. Given the quiet demeanor of the man he did not wish to be too forthcoming, but simply to share in the ideas as they were presented in kind. In regards to the mechanics of his game he was willing to explain to whatever lengths the man wished, even if he held no steadfast interest. As it was, they'd have a lot of time on their hands here now until they found a way out.

The two men were very different, from worlds that existed vastly apart from each other not just in distance but philosophy, but that didn't mean Pegasus couldn't or wasn't willing to relate. Hope was needed if progress was to be made. It would perhaps be a refreshing viewpoint in comparison to the one Leo has had to contend with. "Survival of the fittest" was always a theory that held merits and yet Pegasus himself was not so selfish a man to turn anyone away if they needed his help.]

They are similar, but are not the same. A spell card has a single effect to provide a bonus to the user or a weakness to the opponent. Used properly, a single Spell Card can significantly alter the game in the user's favor, or even cause them to win the Duel. I would consider them support cards to one's monsters or Life points and so on as well. They are, in my opinion quite essential to one's deck even as much as one's monsters are. They can change the field, be used as equipment cards to make one's monsters more powerful, can counter an opponent's attack, change the tide of the battle, and so on.

Trap cards are another important part of each duelist's deck. As the name suggests they are in fact traps that can be used against one's opponent to counter their attacks, prevent action, or to react to the opponent's spell or trap cards. These cards can be activated during an opponent's turn anytime, but many of the cards hold a specific time to be used. Given the combinations one can use with trap cards and the defense it can bring, including certain traps in combination with one's monsters or spell cards, they should be a part of every skilled duelist's strategy.

Pfft, I can wait months. You're fine.

[ Leo shakes his head, clearly not holding Pegasus accountable for the change in his mood. If anything, he brought the subject up so he should be the one apologizing - for ruining the overall ambiance, if nothing else. Here they settled for drinks and friendly chatter, maybe even an exchange of information regarding the new location, and he ended up venting about the stress and decline back home. Talk about being a bad guest.

It's just difficult to sever his emotional tie to the subject when it's something that affects someone he cares about. Leo's looked up to Max for as long as he's been a part of the force, taking his words and actions to heart, trying to follow in the man's footsteps. "Family for strength, strength for family." He never thought he would be the one echoing those words back to the man that said them.

Leo's blue eyes flutter up momentarily, locking with Peagsus's visible eye. There's a pause of his actions, almost as if he is debating just what he should do or say in response. In the end, he diverts his gaze and stares down into his drink. ]

I was the one that brought it up, don't apologize. [ The snifter is passed between his hands as he takes a minute to regain composure, shifting around in the seat. When he settles, he has an ankle resting against his synthetic knee. ] I shouldn't have said anything in the first place, to be honest.

[ It's said with a wry smile and his attention is back on his company. Emotions really do tend to get the best of Leo; sometimes, they can be utilized - other times, not so much. The current case is more of the latter as he's unable to help the one person that needs it. Seeing as how it's in his best interest to drop the subject completely instead of mulling over it, he tries to do just that. He can focus on the card game instead, nod to show that he understands just what Pegasus is explaining. ]

Sounds like a lot of strategy and forward-thinking is involved. And here I thought you were just dressing it up to look nice.

[ Despite not favoring card games, he must admit that the man has a way to sell it. Leo's interest is piqued, if only a little. ]

[Venting was to be expected in such an environment, and honestly Pegasus had wanted to know more about the man so he'd asked about some of what they'd been discussing so he didn't think Leo was at fault. Not to mention part of this arrangement was so that they could get to know one another, and he accepted that that might come with a heavier background. Much of what he learned already told him much about the man.

Emotions are something that very much affect Pegasus as well, so he sympathized, really he did.]

Please...I wished to know. You needn't hide such things from me, Mister Leo. I am hardly someone who would not wish to hear of it simply because of the heavier subject material. I know it's important to you, and I do wish to get to know you better. I simply thought the turn of conversation could use a little pep, if you will.

[Not everything has to be doom and gloom, after all. He smiled to reassure the man sitting across from him, showing that he's not at all bothered by any of what he's been told. It was a lot to take in, but he enjoyed spending time with people, and learning about them. To think before this he had been so lonely, now he had more people surrounding him than he knew how to handle.]

Heh. I'm glad you see how I envisioned it. Not many do.

My turn to apologize. Not just for the wait but length as well. Ahh.

[personal profile] cybrid 2013-07-22 02:36 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll keep that in mind.

[ And he will. Leo's certain the man isn't feigning ignorance where his tech is concerned so he knows for a fact that he isn't from his world. Once he can properly gauge the man's character, he may just elaborate on what he did spill. Max's lapse, what he did to Stella and Ondine, is classified information. It isn't just to save face where the BPS is concerned but also for Max's well-being. He has to know that he can trust Pegasus with that before he'll talk any further. ]

Do you have any of your cards on you? Since we aren't going anywhere any time soon, I figure you could teach me how to play.

[personal profile] mister_foppish 2013-07-22 06:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I happen to have my entire deck actually. Though, I believe I might have some spares.

[Pegasus understood that time and consideration was needed before the two men could establish rapport. As it was, he had enough cards that a starter deck might be able to be made from them. If he wanted to give Leo all the cards he held in mind however he'd have to either find a way to get them or hope that they'd appear in his room much like some of his clothes had in his dorm closet.]

Oh, I'd love to teach you, Leo-boy~! ♥
