Joint Post! Like an Old Married Couple

[From just outside the jungle's trees, near the mountainside, some bickering can be heard:]

Here. It's probably fresher than you'd like, but it's all we have.
...I can't eat that, Bakura.
You don't have the option to be picky, Malik!
No...I really can't, you fool!
Tch... I can cook it a bit more, but we have to be careful, or the smoke from the fire will give us away!
Ughh...can't you find some fruit? Just look up.
Do you want to die? If someone finds you while I'm out looking for fruit, you'll have worse problems than having to eat meat.
But Bakura... [Malik sounds a bit like he might be ill.] My stomach...
O-oy! Hold on a little longer, okay? I'll see if I can find something close by. I'll stay within earshot, so if someone approaches, scream.
Just get a couple...I don't need that much.
Be quiet, you idiot. You need to eat something. [He chomps down on the meat Malik refused to eat.]
Well? I can't eat anything if you don't go get something!

((ooc: So! Tags will come from both Bakura and Malik. If we're going to tag you with both on a turn we'll put a "1/2" in the subject line, otherwise it's just one at a time. Also since the two of them are injured, we just ask that nobody with magic healing powers comes along to heal them up and stuff. Thanks!

[Hah. It actually causes him to smile grimly when Bakura mentions that, almost amusedly. Rosenkreuz not invited? He'd be crushed.

Still, he lets Bakura go, staring at him the entire time to ensure he really does go. An interesting individual... and a dangerous one. It seemed fitting, for Jack Cade's descendant...

Once sure that Bakura is gone, Henry turns on his heel and leaves, deciding to stay in his Deck Leader form for now. Just in case...]
dontknowjack: (What are you planning Henry)

Speaking of Jack Cade...

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
[The distant sound of King Henry's voice had caught his attention at what seemed like hours ago. It was probably closer to minutes, but considering the trouble he was having navigating this castle, it felt like hours.

As it was, it was some time after Henry and Bakura had parted that Jack reached him. The first thing he noticed was the Deck Leader form. That sent signals of concern down his spine. Was something the matter? Danger?

It was better not to surprise him. Rather than simply approach, he raised his voice and called out.
]

Your Majesty!
helpusduelist: (I know you're thinking that I'm hiding)

You're late, motherfucker.

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 01:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[The voice causes a prickle down Henry's spine, though he notes the different tone. What, was Bakura coming back to try and mock him some?

Then his eyes fall on who it is, and the red makes his heart leap in joy. There was only one person with that look -- only one person who wore armor as red as the roses that Lancaster used to represent itself. And right now, it was one of the few people that Henry is so genuinely happy to see that he actually smiles.]

Jack!

[But just as a part of him tells him to rush over and be grateful, the more pratical part roots his feet.

Jack Cade is dead. Harriet had killed him in their duel, even unintentionally. Now, it was very true this place was in some other time, and apparently pulling people from various different points in time -- it wouldn't be hard to believe that it had taken Jack from before his duel with Harriet.

But at the same time, Bakura could lie. How he could have gotten ahold of Cade's armor, Henry didn't know, but it was a possibility he wouldn't discount, especially not after what just recently happened. This, of course, makes his stance and expression less than friendly.

He drops his hand down, silently questioning the Dark Magician even as he calls back out.]

Cade! Call your Deck Leader armor, now!
Edited 2013-09-07 13:27 (UTC)
dontknowjack: (Did you just say what I think you did?)

So sorry! I was delayed by unexpected death.

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 01:43 pm (UTC)(link)
[Something is terribly wrong here. The look on Henry's face is unnervingly shocked. From a pleased smiling, he had turned almost instantly into defensive mode. What could have happened to bother him so much? He doesn't hesitate in response. An order from Henry is an order he is happy to obey, even if he doesn't understand it. Perhaps there is some threat here. Or-]

Yes, Majesty.

[Bowing his head slightly, he calls it forth without hesitation. ]

Well then? Does this satisfy your concerns?

[...wait a minute. Now that he's not distracted by the command, he's just going to stare at those bandages. Those are some very complicated bandages. How severe must the damage be for that?]

Your face-! What fool did this to you?!
Edited 2013-09-07 13:45 (UTC)
helpusduelist: (Take a sec to think about)

Well that's no excuse.

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jack answers the command without complaint, the armor appears, and the Dark Magician returns the news that this man is who he appears to be. At once, all of that tenseness and unease just melts away from Henry, replaced by joy and a trace of exhaustion.]

Yes, it does.

[Now he goes over, ignoring the forced limp and whining of his leg at the speed, and -- likely to the other man's surprise -- throws his arms around Jack's neck to nearly collapse on top of him.

He isn't shaking, thankfully, but the relief is so much it's almost pulled out that exhaustion he's been pushing aside.]

Thank the Lord, it truly is you...
Edited 2013-09-07 13:49 (UTC)
dontknowjack: (You know you want this armor)

Please forgive me my tardiness!

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 01:59 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jack stumbles in surprise, but wraps an arm around Henry's shoulders to support him. First the paranoia, then the facial wound, and now the limp... had Henry gone to war within this place? He found himself bristling with rage at the thought. Who the hell had done this?!

The privacy of the hall affords him some leeway in the formalities, at least.
]

Who else would it be? My looks are hardly anything but unique. You couldn't exactly run into another me around here, could you?

[He offers the joke lightly, feeling a little like he's missing some big part of a story. Considering the way Henry's clinging to him in such an undignified manner, it's not too good to reveal his anger in words. Though Henry could probably feel it. Jack was trembling with rage at the thought of someone harming him.]
helpusduelist: (Just to watch them all bow down)

Very well. You have always been loyal...

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 02:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[Henry can only bark a weak, rough laugh at the joke, but there's no humor in it whatsoever.]

That is precisely what has happened.

[He manages to compose himself, straightening up so as not to force Jack to completely support his weight. He shifts one of his hands to the other man's shoulder, breathing a bit better now.]

...It's quite a story, and one not safely told out here. There's a place that we found that's safe, so long as the door is locked. We can speak there.
dontknowjack: (No you can't have the puppy)

You are most gracious...

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 02:10 pm (UTC)(link)
...what?!!

[Had Henry hit his head? What was this talk? His joke hadn't been even remotely serious. On top of that, there was the 'we'. He doesn't ask aloud yet. Henry has made it clear that he'd rather talk in private.]

Kh. Lean on me, Highness, if you wish! You should not put too much strain on your leg if it's already that bad.

[Really, it didn't need to be said. Henry's weight would have been easy to support on his own.]

Where is this place you speak of?

[He really wants answers, but for Henry's sake, he'll be patient. The man looks like he's been through hell.]
Edited 2013-09-07 14:11 (UTC)
helpusduelist: (Fighting for you and maybe)

Okay enough of that I feel like a creeper.

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 02:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm.

[He already intends to explain it, so that's all he offers for the shock. Henry shifts his arm to lace around Jack's shoulders, putting some of his weight on the other man to spare his wounded leg.]

Head down this hallway, then turn at the third left. I'll direct you from there. This place is set up... differently from what we're familiar with, so it can easily be confusing.
dontknowjack: (What are you planning Henry)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Believe me, I have seen it already. It took me forever to figure out where your voice was coming from.

[Just going to support him to the dorm, as fast as he can go without hurting Henry.

Because really, the man needs to sit down and rest. When he arrives there, he stares blankly at the ordinary-looking door. It looks the same as every other door in the place. Hardly a fitting refuge for a king.
]
helpusduelist: (What this king really rules)

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
[Henry pushes off Jack when they arrive, testing the door; it's unlocked, so either someone is there or whoever left last forgot to lock it.

It seems to be the latter, as it's silent when the two enter. Unwilling to risk a surprise, he shuts and locks the door once they're both in, then limps over to finally collapse onto the couch with a relieved sigh, rubbing his hand over his face and waving Jack over.]

Welcome to our lodgings, as they are. It could certainly be worse.

dontknowjack: (Oh just shut up)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Worse it could be, but it could be far better. Still, he crosses over to sit on the oddly-shaped bed. That was what it was, right? It was too long and soft to be a chair. You could fit three people on it! ...two if they were wearing heavy armor. Four if one were willing to lie on top of the others. But enough of that strange thought.]

What a strange place this is. At least it appears to be strong enough to keep out the weather.

[That's the best compliment he could think of. 'It functions as a large umbrella'.]
helpusduelist: <user name=deathdesu> (For a cause because I demand)

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 02:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[He chuckles a bit, amusedly, nodding somewhat.]

Among other things. Have you noticed how much cooler you feel already, just by being in here?

[He lets the Deck Leader armor drop now that they're safe, leaning his head back on the sofa.]

To start... it seems that our Red Rose Cards are not the only way to manipulate time, as we've come to the rough period that the Rose Duelists originally existed in.
dontknowjack: (No you can't have the puppy)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Ah-! Now that I think about it, it does feel better.

[It's a little hard to tell in his armor, but... yes, actually. What sorcery is this? Did someone pack the walls with ice?

But enough of that. Henry clearly thinks they're safe here. He disagrees a little, so he'll just be sitting tensely there, hands on his knees.
]

...That must be powerful magic indeed.

[But it's not important. What is important is who the hell hurt Henry, and is he allowed to kill them?! Priorities, Majesty!

Still, he's not going to say that. Yet. He'll think of how to word it first.
]

Do you know who is behind it?

helpusduelist: (Take a sec to think about)

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 02:44 pm (UTC)(link)
An advance of technology, it seems. Harriet and Eleanor confirmed it was commonplace in this time, along with quite a few interesting domestic tasks... though in return, magic is supposed to have been mostly lost to all but a few.

[He'll explain about that part later.]

Not even a slight clue. Even those who have been here longer have yet to discover a thing about our captor, but whoever she is, she's not inclined to keep us penned up. We're currently on an island with no way off it, but in the span of this island, we can wander freely wherever we please.

Some have suggested it as an... experiment of sorts, but I can hardly agree on a squandering of magic for such a thing if it's all but lost.
dontknowjack: (Did you just say what I think you did?)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 02:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Keh! What do they think they're doing?! Wasting such a precious resource on such nonsense is akin to cutting down a forest just so you can find a stump to sit on! If they wished to experiment on someone, they should save their power and take people from their own time!

[Okay. Calm. He is calm. Entirely calm.

...mostly calm.

A little calm.

Calm enough.
]

At least these amenities of which you speak exist to make this place slightly more than just an ordinary annoyance. Even though it looks as though a war has been going on.

[MAJESTY, PLEASE TELL HIM WHO TO MURDER. Should he just stab the walls until he finds someone?

No, wait, the ice might fall out. That would be inconvenient.
]
helpusduelist: (What this king really rules)

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Hah! That's certainly true enough!

[Henry manages a genuine laugh, if only quietly. He reaches a hand up to run through his hair, fingers twitching in an old childish habit of wanting to fiddle with the wound. He'll have to eventually show Cade the wounds, but he has a feeling that will only make him that much more irritated.

As it is, well...]

War is certainly one way to call it. A boy here by the name of Malik Ishtar seems to have had some sort of blood feud with one of my descendants by the name of Yugi Muto. For some reason, this fool of a child thought it wise to take his hatred out upon me simply because my descendent and I share a similar look and pulled the four of us -- Eleanor, Harriet, Rosenkreuz, and myself -- into the feud.

[He holds his hand up to stop any questions. Yes, he will explain about Rosenkreuz and Harriet, but not yet.]

This boy had another with him that went by the name Bakura, that appears to be a descendant of yours; he looks quite similar to you as well, and he confirmed my fears that he still possesses the powers your family has passed down. However, he is far from you in any other way, Jack.

He is as a wild beast, following only what master he feels like following at the time and taking delight in causing suffering among others. He had been torturing Eleanor by the orders of Malik, and she is still somewhat unsettled by it, so please be easy on her.

As for this Malik himself, he possessed an artifact that Rosenkreuz had recognized that allowed him to control Harriet's mind and turn her against me. The War Duel that followed was on a field that he and Bakura had set up with traps along it: a bear trap would have mangled my leg beyond healing had my Deck Leader armor not dampened it and a fire trap burnt a part of my face terribly. I was able to heal some of it on the War Field and Rosenkreuz added some of his own, but the rest must slowly recover on its own.

By God's mercy, we all came out of it alive and Rosenkreuz was able to severely wound Malik and scar Bakura, but the two are still no doubt at odds to us. We cannot act directly -- they stole the Rose Cards off the Duelists and offered them back to us for a nonaggression truce -- but they will certainly shatter it soon enough, disgusting curs without honor they are.
dontknowjack: (Be less annoying! My King is speaking!)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 03:11 pm (UTC)(link)
. . .

[He obediently listens to the explaination in silence, his eyes growing darker with rage at each part. He doesn't entirely understand all of it, but he gets the point. He stays silent a little longer, mulling it over before he speaks.]

Eleanor can take care of herself, can she not? But if it is your wish, then I am at your command, as always.

As to those fools...

[His fingernails scrape slightly against his armor as his hands tense. The pure impudence of it all! And one of them being a relative of his, no less?! What absolute insanity would lead to his family falling so far?]

...they will not gain the chance to harm you again! I swear it!
helpusduelist: (Fighting for you and maybe)

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 03:20 pm (UTC)(link)
Certainly so, but torture was not something she had ever been prepared for, with how differently things are done in her time. All you need do is speak a bit more gently to her, and that should be enough.

[Henry can spot the tenseness in Jack's shoulders; while the two may not have been together for as long as, say, him and Christopher, the king knew enough about his close friend to spot them.

As it is, he closes his eyes at that, smiling softly.]

Thank you, Jack. Your presence is always something that eases my fears.

[After all, he'd done so much to protect Henry...

But now he has to turn the conversation to a darker spot, as much as he'd love to leave it be. There was something he needed to know.]

What is the last thing of the War you remember?
dontknowjack: (So... why are you here again?)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, I can do that.

[...he'll try, anyway.

At the other question, however, he pauses to ponder the meaning of it. The last thing he remembered? What an odd thing to ask. Had he been knocked out or something?
]

I was awaiting at Rennes for the arrival of Harriet. The rest of those idiots had already lost their cards. So we waited. It seemed to be taking forever for them to get here.

I recall that I didn't want to sleep, but I knew that I'd not be fighting at my best if I did not and she arrived the next day. So I slept... and when I awoke, I was here.
helpusduelist: (They're falling one by one around me)

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 03:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[The look on Henry's face turns mournful, almost pained.]

I see...

[This... is admittedly nothing he was ever trained for, so he struggles to try to figure out how to put it into words.]

Jack...
dontknowjack: (What are you planning Henry)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-07 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
What is wrong? Henry?

[SCREW THE FORMALITIES, THEY'RE IN PRIVATE AND HENRY LOOKS LIKE HE'S SEEN A GHOST.

Jack just looks at him worriedly. What is he missing here? There's no way he could have slept through an attack, right?

Though Henry did claim that Rozenkreuz and Harriet were both here, which seemed odd in and of itself.

...you didn't lose a puppy or something, did you, Henry?
]
helpusduelist: (Take a sec to think about)

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-07 03:45 pm (UTC)(link)
You are dead, Jack. Or you were.

[It's not the most subtle way to start, but it's the only thing he can think of to get himself started.]

Harriet marched upon you, and you triggered a Dark Duel in response to her presence; her ruthlessness, I imagine. You almost had her as well, but the fact of the matter was that pushing her into the corner with her hampered army caused her to panic. She retaliated by attacking you directly, and... miscalculated the strength of her monster, or so I had heard. But regardless of her reasoning, the attack ripped your body apart.

[Pain is layered so thickly in Henry's voice. His eyes burn and his body feels like it wants to cry, but after so long of war, there are simply no tears left.]

I had known something felt wrong and despite my mother's urging, I rushed to Rennes. But by the time I arrived... it was far too late. The duel had been finished long before I came, and all that awaited me was... what was left of your body, all life of it gone to God.

[...Perhaps not completely so. A few small tears fall from Henry's eyes, though he makes no move to dry them off. He doesn't even seem to know they're there.]

dontknowjack: (This sword was made for stabbin' ♪)

[personal profile] dontknowjack 2013-09-08 06:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[...dead?

But he wasn't dead. He was right here. He could feel it all; the cold air, the stifling warmth of his armor, the strange chill running down his spine. But the look on Henry's face was enough confirmation for him. Only the harshest of truths could make him suffer so greatly. Despite that, none of it feels real to him. It's real, he knows that. Henry would not lie to him about such a thing. Even if he did, that pain could not be faked. Yet it felt as though they were talking about another person entirely

Those tears make his already shocked expression turn to concern and without hesitation, he reaches out to grasp Henry's shoulders firmly. It's an impolite gesture, but he hardly cares. This is far more important.

Crying, for him? How absurd... Who else would ever have cried over him? It touches him deep down. This man, of all men, should never have to suffer so.
]

Forgive me, Majesty. I wished for nothing more than to serve you. To cause you such pain gives me grief.

[He will not belittle this pain. Even if he remembers none of this, even if it feels unreal, he will not so much as say a single word against it. His anger churns in the pit of his stomach. It was not directed at Henry; far from it. No, the one who had caused him suffering was Harriet.]

I shall not leave you again.
helpusduelist: (They're falling one by one around me)

[personal profile] helpusduelist 2013-09-08 06:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[Henry manages a weak smile as Jack's hands close on his shoulders, but there's still that pain there, that suffering.]

Harriet... she and Eleanor were no better than children, in our world. Given powers and strength they couldn't understand, then thrown into a war they had no understanding of or stake in, it was no wonder that eventually... something would happen.

[He reaches up to rub his face, notices the wetness, and wipes it away without a thought.]

It was our fault. To rely so heavily on those who had never even suffered real discomfort to decide our war for us. And... it was mine, as well. Though Harriet may have held the sword, your blood is on my hands. Had I listened to myself rather than let my mother cloud my council... had I even had the courage to take the battle into my hands rather than wait until Harriet had fought me and shown just how little hiding like outlaws had done... then it never would have happened. You would have never died like that.

[He has to resist the urge to rub at the burn on his cheek now. Had that duel been brought into play by divine purpose? Had that been his punishment from God, for hiding so long like a common coward? It would have been ironic enough.]

...I'm sorry, Jack. Forgive me...
