Joint Post! Like an Old Married Couple

[From just outside the jungle's trees, near the mountainside, some bickering can be heard:]

Here. It's probably fresher than you'd like, but it's all we have.
...I can't eat that, Bakura.
You don't have the option to be picky, Malik!
No...I really can't, you fool!
Tch... I can cook it a bit more, but we have to be careful, or the smoke from the fire will give us away!
Ughh...can't you find some fruit? Just look up.
Do you want to die? If someone finds you while I'm out looking for fruit, you'll have worse problems than having to eat meat.
But Bakura... [Malik sounds a bit like he might be ill.] My stomach...
O-oy! Hold on a little longer, okay? I'll see if I can find something close by. I'll stay within earshot, so if someone approaches, scream.
Just get a couple...I don't need that much.
Be quiet, you idiot. You need to eat something. [He chomps down on the meat Malik refused to eat.]
Well? I can't eat anything if you don't go get something!

((ooc: So! Tags will come from both Bakura and Malik. If we're going to tag you with both on a turn we'll put a "1/2" in the subject line, otherwise it's just one at a time. [Malik goes in to rip the cloak back when Bakura's elbow connects with his side. The pain is intense...amazing...! It draws a pained wheeze out of him and forces him to stumble back against a nearby tree to recover.]

HhuhuHUHUAHA...that hurt!

[Flipping the Rod over in his hand, he uses its powers to pin Bakura back against a nearby tree before he can lunge at him.]

So...why don't you be a good Parasite and stay still while I end your life?

[The Ring glows, trying to interfere in the only way he knows how. If he's going to be pinned in such a way, he's dead already! He has to fight it.

So he throws his power back at Malik in turn, intent on paralysing him where he stands.]

Like hell! You like pain, don't you? Be good and let me slice you up, won't you?

[Though he throws the mocking words back at him, he's honestly bothered by the thought. Malik... is he truly lost forever like this?]

[Malik's forced to stop mid-step, a look of irritation flashing briefly across his features.]

Oh...fine then. How about a game? Huhuhu...the winner can take the life of the loser.

Tch... Why should I want to play a game with you?

[He scoffs, struggling against the restraining power as much as he can. No good... it's too much.]

...ugh. What game are you thinking of?

Stalemates are no fun...

[He thinks a moment, and then allows his tongue to loll out of his mouth as he chuckles again.

Slurping the muscles back into his mouth, he continues.]

We'll each summon four monsters and sick them on each other. Whoever has a monster left standing at the end...wins~

[Malik's summoning skills aren't the best. Even with the Rod, this Malik shouldn't be able to summon anything too strong. And while most of Bakura's cards are weak, some of them are more than strong enough to take down any four-star monsters. Plus Malik already used some of his energy earlier with the Behemoth.]

Fine! And when it's over... I'll kill you!

[Not that he plans to let himself get killed even if he did lose. Which he doubts he will.]

[Malik narrows his eyes into a rather smug, confident look. His dominate half may have been weak...but he was in tuned with the darkness! This was going to be almost too easy.]

Good...then draw!

[Reaching into his deck, he pulls out the four cards he plans to use.]

Are you ready to die now? Huhuhu....

[Malik's confidence makes him feel like he should have kept Ra. Even if he'd feel like dying just trying to summon that thing, he'd have a guaranteed instant win right there. Instead, he draws out his cards, holding them ready.

Malik's confidence bothers him. He has to know his body's limits... so what is he planning?]

I'm not the one that's going to be dying... Malik!

[His choices are clear, since he hasn't become familiar enough with the newer cards.

Doomcalibur Knight - 1900 / 1800
Earl of Demise - 2000 / 700
Dark Necrofear - 2200 / 2800

And finally...

Dark Ruler Ha Des - 2450 / 1600

His victory is assured.]

We'll see about that...

[Malik says with unwavering confidence, and even amusement. This was all quite funny to him.

Without another word, he goes ahead and summons three of his monsters with ease.

Goblin Attack Force - 2300 / 0
Gil Garth - 1800 / 1200
Revival Jam - 1500 / 500

They were all low levels, and easily beaten by Bakura's force.]

Huhuhu...you've got a good hand, Parasite! I must have made a grievous mistake, challenging you...

[There was a clear mocking in his voice, his last card still held between his fingertips.]

[What is going on? Malik wouldn't be so calm if he wasn't sure he was going to win.]

What about your fourth?

[He has a very bad feeling about this.]

I'm so glad you asked!

[Suddenly, he swings his arms out, the Ra card's front facing Bakura now so he can see.]

Not everybody gets to be honored with Ra's presence before they die, you know!

[Folding his arms across his chest, mocking the pose of an Egyptian Pharaoh, he closes his eyes and begins to chant a mantra in Ancient Egyptian.

The monsters in front of him are drawn together, practically mashed to a pulp as they're funneled into a black void forming at the front of the God card. Once the entrails and corpora have been consumed, that void spreads out like an infection, lighting flashing outwards from it as the sky itself begins to dim at the God's wrath.

Malik isn't without strain though...there's sweat running down his brow, and veins popping up along his cheeks, bulging in his impromptu consecration.

But it's all worth it, when the head of Ra bursts forth from the darkness of the void, followed after by its massive wingspan and shining body of gold.

Malik lowers his arms once the monster is summoned, his shoulder heaving with labored breathes. Summoning Ra wasn't easy...but the look on Bakura's when he blows him apart will be more than worth the strain!]

Huhuh...KUAHHAHA! [He throws his head back for the short laugh, and then hunches over once he's finished, extending one arm to point threateningly at Bakura.] Parasite... This will be your demise!

[Bakura feels his mind go white with shock. He can't even call forth the words to speak. That wasn't possible! Malik should never have been able to summon something like that, even with the use of sacrificial lambs like those.

All he can do is watch with wide eyes as Ra explodes from the darkness. He steps back, back pressed to the tree willingly this time, as he watches. As if in response, his monsters move to shield him. It's like servants protecting their master. Even they know that there is no defeating Ra.

It's foolish even to try.

The most they can do is try to deaden the damage their master takes. Even if their own pain will be inflicted on him... it'll be less deadly than a direct attack.]

[Malik lets out a laugh that slowly crescendos into outright ecstasy, his hands raised up at chest height as he took in the pathetic sight of Bakura and his monsters.]

Look at them...! RA...DESTROY THEM ALL!

[The God rears its head back and lets out a bird-like screech. The great beast then cranes its neck and pulls its wings back as it exhales a lava-like stream of fire at Bakura and his monsters.

As soon as the attack is over, Malik is exhausted, and Ra is pulled back into the card.]

GUYAHHHHHHH! [It's all Bakura can do to withstand the attack. Even with the monsters shielding him, it hurts. Nothing can withstand that fire. By the time it's over, Bakura is practically on the ground, trembling in agony.

It hurts. It's worse than anything he's felt in a long time. Even with the shielding, the burns on his body are pretty bad. He curls in on himself, his body relentlessly shaking. It's like his skin is searing, tearing itself apart in places. His clothes are clinging into the wounds, making it worse.

He can't just lie here. He's going to die if he does. Malik won't let him live long enough to recover. He has to move. Wounds like this won't kill him if he's careful. The problem with burns, he knows, is the shock to the system. If he can hold on long enough... as long as Ryou isn't in control, he should be able to survive this for a while.

Pain is nothing. He has to get up.]

Bas...tard...!

[His insult is practically spit out through clenched teeth.]

[It was harder than he thought it was going to be...standing now, after summoning Ra. But seeing Bakura struggle there, barely clinging to life on the charred ground. It was quite the sight!]

Heehuhu...you're stubborn. Like a roach...

[Malik drags himself in a slow walk towards Bakura, the Rod once again unsheathed to expose the pointed ritual blade beneath.]

I guess...I'll just have to crush you! [Pulling the blade back over his head, he thrusts it down towards Bakura's neck.]

[He'd take that as a compliment, coming from someone like him.

Everything switches to instinct. His fingers seize one of his cards, not caring which. Malik had to have used up a ton of energy like this. It had to be enough-!

He felt like his mind temporarily slipped, watching everything in slow motion. A flurry of something heavy slamming into Malik, knocking both him and the blade aside. Arms coated in black fur, snatching him up, carrying him away with rapid speed. Towards the school.

It was the safest place right now. He couldn't trust their apartment, but maybe if he could find someone else... someone more suited to fight. Malik had to be stopped. If he didn't, they were all going to burn.

...

Dammit, this was his favourite coat, too.]

[Safe, Bakura told the monster. Someone who could fight, Bakura told the monster. And now that monster is screeching outside the barrier of the Dorm of the Roses.

Well technically he's not wrong. But Rosenkreuz is utterly furious at discovering his Rod is missing, and the only reason he's still inside is he was distracted by the fireworks in the window outside. And so when he flings the door open, his Swordstalker is right over his shoulder, because he was fully prepared to kick the ass of whoever was bringing this bullshit to them.

But it seems this ass was ordered pre-kicked. He snarls at Bakura]

You have ten seconds to explain what the hell is going on before I put you out of your misery!

I didn't mean here!

[He scowls up at the monster before turning his attention to Rosenkreuz.

No, this could be useful. This guy was powerful and Malik would need to recharge his energy. He speaks quickly but firmly, his voice cold. Even his usual sarcasm is gone.

Words don't seem to be coming easily right now. The pain is driving him mad, and keeping his powers in check at the sight of this threat is difficult, as is evident by the growl of the beast that still cradles him in his arms like some sort of fried chicken. ]

It's Malik. He's lost his mind... and he has the Rod.

[Oh, he hates to do this. He really does. He doesn't want Malik hurt. But he knows how this goes. If he simply allows Malik to do what he wants out of some foolish attachment... Shoving his pride aside, he allows the monster to set him on the floor and disappear.]

He's totally snapped. If he isn't... if he isn't stopped... he might kill everyone on this island.

Hmph.

[So, he admits they took the Rod. Well, luckily for Bakura, Rosenkreuz cares enough about that to listen. Of course, he doesn't trust him as far as he could throw him, but he has his own idea of how to deal with that. And it starts with reaching out and dragging him inside the barrier.]

I'll take it back and stop him. But you will be coming with me. You've tried to deceive me before - I won't allow you that chance.

[he looks down at him in disgust.]

But in this state, you'll only be a hindrance...

[So, Rosenkreuz is just going to set him down firmly and immediately get to work keeping him from dying. There's bandages just lying around from all the injuries he's had to nurse lately, so he grabs them up, roughly pulls aside the burnt clothes and starts bandaging him rather aggressively. He doesn't care about making him comfortable, he's an enemy and they're in a damn hurry.]

[He scowls at Rosenkreuz, gritting his teeth against the pain. Those clothes were seared into his skin, starting to fuse - Rosenkreuz had simply torn the agonizing wounds open further.]

Gah-! Ngh... Bastard.

[If he hadn't promised Malik he wouldn't even let blood pass his lips, he might have bitten his hand just to try to stop himself from reacting too much. Being manhandled like this was humiliating, and he felt rather exposed, but he was in no fit condition to stop him. Nor to argue. Even if that man took the Rod... he'd get it back. He wouldn't allow anyone else but Yugi to have it, in the end. Everyone else was just borrowing it.

It was a mark of just how messed up he was that he submitted as lightly as he did, though he guardedly protected the Ring from Rosenkreuz's stupid fingers.

...he really wasn't relishing the thought of seeing Malik again so soon. At least now he was pretty sure he wasn't going to die.]

I wouldn't expe- ow-! ...expect any less of you.

[And he sure as hell isn't offering any reassurances.]

[Too bad, they're IN THE WAY. He'll just have to bandage that along with everything else. The Ring does catch his eye, but he'll willfully ignore it for now with how much Bakura is guarding it. He'll tuck that away for a later time. If only he still had his books for research on this stuff... for now he has bigger fish to fry. He may not be reassuring him, but he doesn't need to. Rosenkreuz will kill him if this is another trap.

After what feels like forever, Rosenkreuz finally stops and looks over his work.]

... That will have to do. Rest a moment.

[He idly holds a hand out to the barrier, making it shine for a moment - it'll keep him trapped in, now, to ensure he doesn't just crawl off while he goes to rouse the others]

[Speaking of the others...

Jack has been listening for a little while, though he couldn't make out the words. At last his curiosity overtakes him. He simply steps out of their room, sees the scene, takes one look at Rosenkreuz's face and walks back inside.]

Your Majesty, I think it's for you.

[His voice is deadpan.]

[Henry is roused fairly easily from Jack's movement, swinging off the bed and pulling his cloak on over the loose pajamas he'd rifled.]

Who is it?

[But as he asks, he's already going out...

...annnnd that is a specific person he never wanted to see again.]

You.

[...Why is he bandaged?]

Why are you here?

[Oh great, this guy. Not someone he wanted to see right now, but it'll do. He's still in pain, bandages or no, after all. Distractions are welcomed.]

Tch...! I wouldn't be here if I had the option! Malik's gone off the deep end. He tried to burn me alive, but I managed to get away.

[Despite his words, it's obvious he's not seeking pity. Not that he'd receive any if he did.]

Your friend decided the fact he has the Rod back is enough reason to go after him.

The Rod's missing? [Oh Henry, if you had slept as shallowly as you do without Jack, you could've heard Rosenkreuz's bitching.

As it is, he narrows his eyes at Bakura, a heavy sense of "well you did deserve it" coming off him.]

So you came here to ask for our help in stopping him?

[Ignoring the crack about Rosenkreuz for now.]
