No. No! You KNOW who's in there!

[Up in the North Wing, there's a pounding on one of the doors. Someone or something wants out. But what's worse is the crying. The sounds of a woman, frightened to the point of tears, pounding on the door, hoping someone will let her out.]

P-please... [She sobs.] Please, Harry, open the door.

[The sobs continue for a while longer, alongside the desperate pounding on the door.]

Please don't leave me alone. Please!

Somebody?

[The weeping begins again.]

[I'm going to step out for now until you two figure out where Lisa is. ~~She's in the clinic where Snake left her~~]

[Ryou let out a harsh and sudden sob, allowing the Ring to slip from his fingers and clatter back into his lap.

Oh god, what was he doing?! All it took was a moment of weakness, and he'd nearly...]

I-I just thought, maybe...I could use the Ring...

...

Ah. That's right... But, Shoutei, I can use mine. There's no need for you to go that far...

[He let go of the other Ryou's wrist, looking ruefully at the mark he'd left.]

Sorry... I didn't think...

[He's not sure what he means to say. Ryou knew the real reason he almost put the Ring on, but he's not about to tell his other self that.

He looked down at the blood on his wrist, made a small noise, and quickly turned away.]

Man... if 'he' hadn't warned me...

[Oh well. No sense in making Ryou feel worse about it. Tugging the Ring out, gold chain and all, he held it in his hands. Where is she? he asked quietly, and was surprised when the prongs lifted to point at the door.]

Eh? She's still alive...?

[Ryou seemed to snap back to life, looking eager-eyed towards the door.]

We should go find her...! If she's alive, she must be really hurt!

Un. But I'd better leave a note for Malik. I don't want him walking in on this scene...

[Grabbing a pen and some paper, forgetting the blood on his hands, he scribbles off a quick note-

Don't go in the bathroom. A lady got kidnapped by something in there. There's a lot of blood.

-and left it pinned on the now-closed bathroom door.]

Come on.

That's...probably a good idea.

[Ryou stayed where he is, only getting up to walk on his weak knees once it was time to go. The Ring, of course, had been returned to his bag...]

I hope she's ok...

[Malik came home not long after, noticing the bloody diary on the floor before anything else. He gave the note on the door a read, and had only two questions:

1) Why the hell did Ryou have a lady over?
and 2) "Kidnapped by something"?

He decided to be curious and open the door. Even if the diary looked legitimately blood soaked, he still had to see for him--]

[...That was a blood soaked bathroom if he'd ever seen one.

Well, no time to waste then. Malik gathered their things with the help of Thunder Nyan Nyan and Man-Eater Bug and hauled ass out of there. This time, he was the one leaving Ryou a note, pinned on the now-closed bedroom door:

Moved to room [x]. I already took your things. You can thank me later.

Now, now... I'm sure she's fine. Remember, the blood here didn't seem to come from any wounds. So she's probably physically unharmed... though where the blood came from, I've got no idea. Maybe whoever kidnapped her wanted to fake her death?

[He headed over to the door, offering the other Ryou a gentle smile.]

We'll find her, no problem.

Maybe, but...the only way into the bathroom was through that door, right? How would they even do something like that?

[Ryou smiled weakly back, nodded, and continued to follow his other self in silence.]

I'm not sure... I've never seen anything like that before in my life.

[Odd. The Ring seems to be pointing towards the nurse's office.]

Over here.

Me neither... [Ryou looked over at the nurse's office, recognizing it only by the plaque announcing it. At least nurse's offices and hospitals were two different things, right? That meant that surely, she was okay...

He seemed to fall behind as they got closer to the door.]

[His hands were still covered in blood. He realized it belatedly as he lifted a hand to knock on the nurse's door.]

Excuse me! Is anyone in there?

[It sounds like there's animated conversation coming from the office, between the school nurse and another woman. The voices paused at the knock. A few seconds later the door opens. It is, of course, Lisa, looking quite healthy for someone who vanished in a pool of blood not long ago.]

Oh, Ryou, and, um, Ryou. What are you two doing here?

Lisa-san, you're alive! [Ryou tactlessly blurted out the moment the door opened and Lisa had finished speaking.]

[Ryou was stunned into silence. He'd let the Ring drop to rest on his chest the moment the door had started to open, leaving no sign of its magic. His hands were shaking.]

H...how...?

[If this was a magic trick, it was a needlessly terrifying one. Most magicians were satisfied by just vanishing, never mind leaving behind a ton of blood.]

[Seeing her alive was not something the spirit had expected at all. Of course the blood wasn't from wounds, he'd confirmed that himself, but if she'd been snatched away by something, it'd never be this easy to find her.

What the hell was this woman? She was definitely not human.

Interesting... he didn't have a clue what was going on, but he was fascinated.]

[She looks a bit confused, but glad to see the two all the same.]

Um, yeah, I'm fine. I was just getting to know Nurse Lisa. She has a lot of interesting stories about you all.

[She turns back to wave at the school nurse, opening the door wider.]

[Ryou was just as confused, if slightly frightened despite the good news.

He wanted to try and pretend what he'd seen back there in the apartment hadn't happened at all. Maybe they were just imagining it? Maybe it was...some sort of mirror trick?

Whatever it was, Lisa didn't have a scratch on her, and so he had to ask, if vaguely so.]

When...did you leave Aniki's apartment and come here, Lisa-san?

Good afternoon, Lisa-san! [He waved at the nurse, then realized the state of his hands and hid them behind his back. At her question, he shook his head.]

It's just paint. I should have washed my hands before I came out. Sorry. It looks bad.

[Now for the Lisa he came here to see.]

You just kind of disappeared, Lisa-san. We were kind of worried.

Huh, it's only been... [She trails off, thinking.] I think it's only been a half hour or so. We talked for a bit, had some cookies and then I left. I thought I said 'goodbye'. I'm sorry I worried you all. I'm...not sure why, though.

But you...

[Ryou considered saying it, but stopped himself. If Lisa didn't know, maybe it was better that he didn't tell her. Whatever scary thing had happened, it was probably better off forgotten.

He plastered on a cheery smile as best he could, hiding his worry.]

You're right, sorry! I guess we're just easily worried, ne, Aniki?

Ehe... it's fine! Don't worry about it.

[Probably best not to mention it. Yes, that's right... he didn't mean to forget, but he wasn't going to make her think he was crazy.]

I'm sorry to have bothered you, Lisa-san.
