ANNOUNCEMENT 005
[The buzzing of an intercom coming to life that you've all undoubtedly have come to know and love can be heard throughout the entire campus again.]
For the record, 'property damage' includes smashing the intercoms I've so graciously provided you all with as a means to communicate with me. In case you hadn't realized.
[She clears her throat.]
Now then, I hope that little blackout didn't keep you all from being productive. Sharpen those minds!
[And then the feed ends.]
Speak to the Voice
General Mingle
Have fun guys, and don't forget to tag the post with your series name!

[He's just going to stare and...continue not moving.]
no subject
[just gonna prop her elbows on the board, put her chin in her hand and stare back. Didn't she just explain why it wouldn't be? And then she blinks.]
... Wait, can you swim?
no subject
We didn't really...in Egypt...
no subject
[kicking her feet in the water. It's idle. She's not actually swimming back. (Okay, she is a little.)]
no subject
Actually, it was quite cool where I lived. Underground.
no subject
Still, Harriet now makes an actual effort to swim back with the keys. And to hand them over.]
no subject
All snarkiness he may have had aside, he really was grateful that she found them, and that she hadn't made him try and swim over.]
Thanks. My bike would be useless without these.
[...Still kind of awkward having to thank her, though.]
no subject
Err, yes, I'm ... familiar with the concept. [...but it was a valiant effort, anyway.]
no subject
He was feeling a little better now...]
What was it you wanted to talk about earlier?
no subject
[She suddenly frowns. Harriet had wanted to talk about the Rod... Rosenkreuz made using it sound very appealing (though he was certainly biased.) But with this new information that his 'dark side' was still a concern, there is no way she can negotiate to teach him war duels in exchange.]
You were quite right - best not to talk about it now.
no subject
What? But I feel fine now. Come on.
no subject
It's not that. Frankly... After what I've learned just now, I'll have to reconsider what I was going to say. Your dark side is more of a risk than I had anticipated.
no subject
Unless he could fix this, somehow...] What? It's not like anything's happened since the first time.
no subject
no subject
[He already knows the answer to that.]

[Really, she thinks if she gave him the chance to make a case for it, all he would do is lie to get what he wants. This situation bothers her, though. She runs a hand through her bangs, the heel of her palm resting on her forehead as she thinks, looking out into the sea. That dark side is the one that killed Rosenkreuz.... She wants to know what he's still doing! After a moment, she looks back.]
...But. Your dark side is something nobody wants to deal with, especially you. I don't think I can leave that alone. If something did happen, I'd like to know, so I can figure out how to help you stop him.
[She's really going too far with this, she knows. Offering to help Malik with something she has no need to take responsibility for... but, she failed to prevent him from killing Rosenkreuz. And that's something she was responsible for. Harriet strongly feels the need to stay abreast of the situation. ]
no subject
It would be foolish to refuse such an offer, especially when he could use her. Now, all he had to do was manipulate his words enough that the only logical conclusion she could come to was to help him summon Ra.]
As far as I can tell, that other side of myself is related to my happiness. When I first tried to escape I was merely anxious, but failure and Bakura's words hurt more than I thought was possible...and he came out.
Knowing that...escaping this place is my only chance.
no subject
If I could do that, I wouldn't be concerning myself with your problems, you know... if you need cheering up, can't I just get you an ice cream?
no subject
[You're not the only one who can make snarky comments, Harriet.]
I need your help...
[And if he has to forge pity to get it, then so be it.]
no subject
And I need to protect my friends from him. I can't do that by giving you stronger weapons - it's too careless. Can't you see that? Even if you don't care about them, you should care about your own! Your dark side would destroy everything that brings you joy! He said so when we fought him - that his true objective was to kill Bakura. He called him your "hope"...
[Harriet stares at him, wondering if this will get through his apparently thick skull. There has to be another way. He's just set on having her power.]
no subject
If I can't get off this island... [His eyes gleam with a hint of malevolence. If pity alone won't work, maybe a little fear will.] Then I couldn't care less if all of you burn to death in Ra's flames of judgement.
[He stands suddenly, water dripping down his frame as he turns his back to Harriet. It almost seems like he's about to walk away when he reaches down and pulls his shirt over his head, exposing the painful looking carvings along his back.] Do you see this? My father carved this into my back when I was ten years old. And for what? As a key to the memories of some Pharaoh I'd never met!
[The last thing Malik really wants to do is share this...but using his Rod on her is dangerous. That soul fragment he placed within her was a last resort, and one he wasn't even sure would work.]
I need to free my clan from the burden they've held for over 3,000 years! As long as I'm stuck here, they're still suffering in the darkness...pledging their lives to that Pharaoh. Don't think of it as helping me, think of it as helping all of us.
[Mellowing out a bit from his outburst, Malik plucks the Rod from his belt.] Being stuck here indefinitely....
[He glances down at the Rod, his grip tightening with a pained smile.] That thought alone sends a shiver down my spine. Sometimes I think...it'll be easier to just submit than to have to suffer knowing I can never leave this place.

A shadow of horror passes over her face as she realizes the torture one would have to go through to have all of this carved inside. It would have been ten times worse than what Bakura did to Eleanor... and she was Harriet's peer! All of this, on a little child? There could be hardly any wonder why his mind was so broken, now. He could only be described as a victim of abuse. Child abuse. This was much heavier than she had expected, though with how fucked up his dark side was, she is now not sure what she could have possibly taken lightly. He has gained her attention, but first... new plan: get red rose cards back from Jack, bend time to punt Malik's dad into the sun!!!
Though her temper flared for a moment, she pulled it back to listen - making the observation that this must be the Pharaoh he was talking about when she was forced to duel Henry. Harriet's burst of sympathy fades just as easily as it came then, as she remembers the toxic, all-consuming hate that was forced into her head. A rage that felt much larger than her small body, rage for the Pharaoh... perhaps not unjustified, but she could not forget who Malik was. Her expression sobers, cools over, becomes icy in temperature as he muses over how easily it would be to submit.]
You won't get what you want by threatening me, Malik. We're all stuck here the same as you, and you're bloody well going to have to deal. If you do submit fully to that spirit, we'll kill you as many times as necessary. Ra as you can summon it now will be ineffective in a war of attrition. Tiresome as it would become, there's still no chance in hell it will be easy or that you'll win.
But we are not going to be here indefinitely, I promise you that. I'll decide for myself what the best path is to that outcome...
For now, the information you gave me won't go unrewarded. You can have a hint.
[He won't be able to do anything with the hint without training, but... if it becomes necessary for her to do so, then he'll have it ready. It's a good thing, she thinks.]
no subject
Despite what he may have said, he didn't really want to submit to that dark side of himself...no matter how tempting that terror felt! It was strange. Malik was violently repelled and yet still drawn towards that part of himself in his desperation.
That desperation was what lead him here, showing Harriet his most painful memory. His darker side was the easy way out. This was the way of true perseverance. This was his dedication to exacting vengeance on the Pharaoh for everything his clan...his family had suffered.]
...Hm.
[Harriet's warning doesn't go unheeded, but it does go unacknowledged as she brings up something that interests him far more than threats to his mortal body.]
...A hint?
[Then she was considering it, wasn't she? He was one step closer to his goals.]

Consider all of the cards in your deck. Which one's your favorite? Do you feel a connection with your cards? If you don't, it's time to get new ones. ... Got it?
no subject
A favourite card, a connection to his cards... What did that have to do with anything? These cards were just a means for him to defeat the Pharaoh! Or in this case, a means for him to escape this prison.]
