CAMPUS WIDE EVENT: SNOWED IN

[Early morning on the 15th, the building is deathly chilly as well as unusually dark. Even with the heat on people will find themselves wandering the halls and shivering, their breath fogging up in front of them. Anybody foolish enough to try and leave the building will find that the door simply won't budge due to the amount of snow piled against it, and any attempts to exit (or look) through the windows will greet them with a daunting wall of white. Even the courtyard is inaccessible, as is the door leading up to the rooftop.

Outside on the island, it seems a heavy snow storm has blanketed everything in a thick layer of white.]

((ooc: The event will last 7 days, with the first 4 being snowed-in, the 5th being a blizzard, the 6th another snow-in day, and the 7th having the snow melting. A post will be made on the 19th and 21st respectively. You can see the conditions here, and on the weekly weather sticky:

[Caim gives her a curious glance. Neutralizing magic? Apparently she couldn't nullify a pact, but he didn't know of anything that could.

He raises an arm and concentrates. Normally the test dummy he was aiming at would be struck with a ball of flame. But nothing happens as he stands next to this strange girl. Interesting. He turns back to the girl and the paper.]

Do you take away magic permanently?

[Oh, right, the pact.]

It was either form a pact or kill a dragon in a fit of revenge and then bleed out in the courtyard of my own castle. A pact saved both of us and then granted me the strength to destroy an army by myself.

[Ahh, good times.]

[She pauses in her fidgeting to watch Caim attempt to cast his magic, shaking her head as it fails. She wishes it were easier to keep it off, instead of just short bursts. Jamie laughs as she reads that last, but there's very little humor in it.] Oh, no. If I did, the Mage Council would've had me killed by now. Or locked away somewhere, at the least. Probably the whole point of having Orin keep track of me, to make sure it doesn't change. I can turn it off for a while, if I know I'm doing it. Otherwise, just getting out of range helps. Five, six feet.

[Jamie's making a face at the explanation of the pact, but not about the revenge or blood or even his castle - who is she dealing with here? - but the unfamiliar word in front of her. She'll deal with his having enough power to fight an entire army on his own later.

...Which is actually pretty incredible.]

What's a dragon? [Yes Caim, be shocked. There's no such thing in her world, not even by another name.]

[The hell kind of crazy world was this girl from? Right, one where mages could apparently siphon life force from others or something strange like that. Frowning, Caim attempts to summon up the worlds to describe them to her.]

They are great lizard-like creatures, only instead of normal front legs like a regular lizard, they have wings and are capable of flight. They're also magic users, to a point, and possess the ability to breathe fire. One of them makes her home here, but she uses her magic to try and pass as one of us.

[He snorts at the thought of Saft. Such a far cry from Angel, but no so much from Furiae.]

[Thankfully she knows what lizards are, although they don't get anywhere near as big as he's describing.]

Wings...I'd love to see something fly like that. Maybe not the breathing fire part, though.

[Well, unless it was one giving Kallian what for, the stupid jerk.]

There's one here? What's she like? Does anything give her away, or is her illusion spell really strong?

[Maybe what she's asking is, 'If I get too close will I ruin things for her?']

[Caim shrugs.]

She looks like a girl not too much older then you. The most peculiar thing about her is her hair. It's purple in the front. I don't know anything about her dragon magic, either. Perhaps she'll revert back to her true form if she ever gets close to you. It will serve the bitch who keeps us here right to have to clean up the mess.

Ah...I don't think I've seen her yet.

[For all the lurking and blending in she's been getting away with, you'd think she'd have noticed her. Then again, purple hair isn't unusual where she comes from, although it's not natural.]

It's not something I enjoy, you know.

[The reply comes out bitter, and Jamie goes back to peeling the notebook corner to shreds.]

Sure, it'd be great for that- person to have to deal with consequences for taking us, but I don't want anyone to get hurt because of it. Taking away the girl's ability to hide is just-

If your magic-nullifying skills are limited, then I fail to see why a short inconvenience would be a problem. They're just dragons after all.

If she's using her magic to blend in, then it's not right no matter how short the 'inconvenience' is. It can still cause long term damage.

['Dragons are people too' obviously wouldn't work here, but Jamie's almost tempted to say it anyway.]
