[Kai's managed to dig up at least two books on memories, but they aren't as simple as 'How to recover lost memories in five easy steps'. The books he's found look to be similar to the spellbooks he's studying from, and that means he's definitely going to need Karasu's help going through them. Even if they find something useful, he wouldn't dare try to cast anything on her; he's hoping it'll at least point them in the right direction. Kai has a sneaking suspicion the Creeper's involved in the mess somewhere, just based on what Karasu had told him.
Honestly, if it weren't for Ryou...
Kai takes another bite of his carrot stick and glances over at the closed bedroom door from where he's sprawled on the couch, flipping through pages. He'd put Surge in just a while ago, and so far the big Labrador's being as quiet as a mouse.]

[Bakura. That manipulative dick. For just the smallest of moments, Kai really does have the urge to go hurt the bastard, but he squashes it quickly. No need to prove him right. Instead he just shakes his head before staring at Karasu in something close to shock. What?]
I'd never hurt you! I'm in control of it, not the other way around. I only use it for the stupid Corridors anyway, it's not like I've been screwing around summoning Heartless.
[Ignore that one time, because that was a fluke. A creepy, dangerous fluke, but Kai's made damn sure it won't happen again. It takes his brain a second to catch up to that last, and he laughs. Nope, not amused.]
Karasu, most of my Keyblades are Light. If it was that big a problem, would I even be able to wield those?
[He knows damn well it's the strength of his Heart that lets him do that, but he needs an argument here.]
no subject
[She seems to be a little reassured, but it's the last part that makes he relax the most. Light... that's right, she saw a couple when he showed them to her. And they certainly felt very right, which probably meant...
Ah-heh. She looks down at her hands, suddenly feeling embarrassed.]
No, I don't think so. That's a good point.
[Ug... now she just feels like a moron for ever bringing it up.]
I'm sorry. I guess... I'm still stupid when it comes to magic.
no subject
I'm surprised Bakura's concerned about it. Well, it was more for you, probably. Still, he should talk to me before getting you worried about things that might not be true.
[He lifts a hand to reach out to her, almost drops it, then touches her shoulder.]
You're not stupid. It's just new stuff. Weird stuff. And...it's okay. I'm not mad.
[At her, anyway.]
If I was having a problem with it, I wouldn't have minded your help. But everything's okay, promise. I've got it under control.
no subject
[She looks up at the touch, smiling a little in relief. Oh, good... she didn't mess this up.]
...Did I tell you before, Kai-kun? That I haven't really had many friends. It's a relief that you're not mad. I didn't mean to make it sound as bad as I did... I was just worried about you. But if everything's okay... then that's good.
no subject
[At least they are when they're not actually wolves pretending to be sheep. Ugh. Why does this have to be so complicated?]
I remember. But you've still got me, so it's fine. Nothing to worry about.
[Kai gives her a small smile. He can pretend. Everything's fine. Bakura didn't manage to find one of his weaknesses, nope. The possibility of anyone, but especially her, being scared of him because of what he could do? Not.A.Problem.]
You know, I should've gotten you a soda or something earlier, or you can peek in on Surge. I know it's not working on this, but he's cute when he sleeps.
no subject
[Thankfully, Kai's put Karasu's fear to rest, so he won't have to worry about showing that in front of Bakura. She stands up, smoothing out her hoodie a little.]
I'd like to peek in on him. I ate before I came here, though, so I'm not very hungry. I wouldn't say no to water, though.

[Kai jumps up and heads to the kitchen, calling back over his shoulder.]
He's probably under the bed against the wall. It's his favorite when I'm not trying to sleep. Then I'm his favorite bed.
[He laughs, genuinely this time, and goes to get a glass out of the cupboard.]

Heere, cute little doggie~]

[She laughs at that, reaching over to playfully rub his head and ears.]
Hello, there!
no subject
Well, he's definitely happy to see you. Down Surge!
[Surge does indeed stop trying to climb on Karasu, dropping obediently to his haunches. Kai lets out a sigh of relief. Finally.]
About time.
no subject
[Karasu gives Surge a kiss on the nose, scratching behind his ears lovingly.]
You need to listen to Kai, okay, boy?
no subject
[Which is to say, not very much. Kai snickers at the display, shaking his head.]
He stays off the furniture if I'm not on it. He doesn't try and eat my food anymore, and he only chewed on one corner of my sketchbook. So we're doing pretty good at the moment. I still need to keep him on a leash when he sees Anubis though, he gets kind of excitable around the puppy.
[Karasu's rewarded with a bark before the dog just flops across her legs. Good luck moving now.]
no subject
Anubis?
Also, he's acting pretty calm around me... I guess I don't smell enough like a dragon to worry him, huh?
no subject
Yeah, Malik's dog. I don't know who else has one, and Surge needs to socialize. It's the most awkward thing ever, those two playing and Malik and I just...not getting along.
[Kai leans against the door frame, tapping the glass absently.] They need to be with their own kind sometimes, though.
[And Surge would like his belly rubs now please! He flips over, feet in the air as his tail thumps against the floor.]
He's a pretty good judge of character.
[Also an excellent Creeper alarm. Quiet laughter forever.]
no subject
[Belly rubs for the big doggie! Karasu seems to be pretty comfortable like this; it is relaxing in the way, with a good friend and an adorable puppy here.]
Maybe I should have gotten one... it would at least make my dorm a little less quiet.
no subject
[Really, Kai's not sure where that tidal wave of dogs went. This place is beyond weird. He moves over to the pair and kneels down next to Karasu, offering her the water.]
Here, I can distract him for a bit.
[Big old goof of a dog.]
no subject
[She takes the glass, shifting a little to drink it comfortably without deseating Surge.]
That's all right. I don't mind it that much. I missed having an animal.
no subject
[He doubts it'll happen again anytime soon, but maybe he'll get lucky. Being dumb enough to ask the intercom lady would probably result in Surge disappearing, so he'll keep his mouth shut.]
I never had one. [Kai reaches down and scratches Surge's belly, laughing as the dog twists around to lick at his hand.] We lived in an apartment, and mom thought a dog was too much work. Actually, she compared the idea of having one to my uncle visiting. He was- is pretty energetic. Asked for a hamster once, but the sound they make when they skitter around reminded her too much of Shadows, so.
[Boy, that'd been a fun conversation for a kid to have.]
What'd you have before?
no subject
[Hee. More bellyrubs for the doggie!]
I had a German Shepard from my father. His name was Mamoru and I loved him almost more than my dad did. He was an old dog when my... [Hesitation.] ...Well, he passed on. I hadn't had a pet since.
no subject
[Surge is the happiest dog right now. Belly rubs from the dork-in-charge and his new friend? He loves you both so much right now.]
That's...I'm sorry. Sure you want another German Shepard? I mean, memories- but whatever you want, if one turns up.
[Kai shifts a little uncomfortably before focusing on trying to grab one of Surge's feet. He's rewarded by being nipped at, and he snorts, tugging gently at his hind leg again.]
no subject
[She laughs a little, poking Surge's belly.]
Don't like your feet being tugged on?
no subject
[Kai grins a bit before pulling away to dig in the closet.]
He likes actual tug of war a lot better...where's that toy- I found the weirdest thing for him. He really likes- ha!
[Kai sits back on his knees and dangles a really weird shaggy toy in front of Karasu.]
This! He snuggles with it when he's not trying to pull it's legs off.
[Surge lets out a sharp bark and scrambles to his feet, latching onto one of said legs and trying to pull the toy away from Kai.]
no subject
[She laughs as Surge grabs for it, shifting to let her legs stretch out and get the feeling back into them.]
Make sure he doesn't tear your arm off!
no subject
[Nooo, Surge only wants to tear the poor toy's limbs off, not Kai's. Which is totally why he's trying to get enough of a grip to hold the thing down and chew on it while Kai snickers, doing his best to yank it back.]
I think I'm safe. Geeze Surge, I fed you already.
