CAMPUS WIDE EVENT: THE LANGUAGE BARRIER REINSTATED

[Today, something somewhere went wrong. On the evening on the 15th, any bilingual (or otherwise) knowledge granted by the Campus has simply...disappeared. At least for anybody walking by the North Wing.]

[Translation: Well...this is going to put a damper on our studies, now isn't it?]

((ooc: So! For the next 5 days (the 15th~20th), your character officially only knows their native tongue. Aka, whatever language they primarily grew up with. They can no longer read, speak, or understand any other language but.

For fun you can even use Google Translate to show what your character is speaking at a glance! Don't worry, we all know it's probably gibberish :P

If you go the Google route, please be sure to put a translation at the bottom. If not, then please take care to specify what language your character is speaking in at the start of every thread.

[What the hell is Niko saying? Taking foreign languages if he ever gets back to a real school, check. Kai looks from Niko to the other man and back, and guesses that was an introduction? When Boone clarifies what Niko wants, Kai has to stop himself from laughing. If he drank, he might be looking for some himself.]

Whoever runs this place has a twisted sense of humor. Sorry, but I don't have anything. Don't drink, and I share with a kid besides, so.

[Kai glances behind himself momentarily, as if checking to see if 'the kid' is anywhere around, then looks back at the two.]

I think there's some in the Headmaster's office, though. It's somewhere in the Southern Wing?

[Or he can just offer to fetch it for them, but he'll wait on that.]

Надам се да је ово добра вест. [I hope this is good news. But he knows his luck and unlike Roman, isn't much of an optimist. He slumps a touch, doing his best impression of kicked, long-nosed unfortunately foreheaded Serbian dog.

[Boone opens his mouth to tell Niko what Kai just said, then remembers that not only would he not understand, but if he did he wouldn't need to be told anyway because he would have heard Kai. INT: 3

Instead, he looks back to Kai and nods.]

Okay... thanks. I'll take him up there.

[He nods to Niko and gestures for him to follow.]

[He is, really. Maybe next time he'll have something tucked away somewhere, but-

...Yeah, better not to. Kai gives Niko a shrug to say sorry. Poor guy looks pretty disappointed.]

[Since words won't help him much, he gives Kai sort of a half-hearted, awkward wave that involves just lifting and dropping his hand. Alright. He'll follow Boone now with an open-handed shrug.

He still doesn't know what's going on or that there is potential for booze. He just has decided to go where Boone is going until he waves him off or something.]

[Boone still isn't really sure about the layout of this place, but he's sure he can find an office. He's sure he passed it actually, after leaving the clinic. He heads in that direction, hands in his pockets.

Headmaster's office... no, that's the clinic. That's the cafeteria. And- aha, there it is. He beckons for Niko to follow, and heads inside. After looking around for a few moments, he finds the liquor cabinet. He pulls out a bottle of vodka, and holds it out to Niko. There, that wasn't so hard. He'll have to remember this place.

...And then, out of habit, he starts looking in the drawers of the desk. Nope, empty. He probably should have expected that. This isn't home, where he could find a few caps or bullets in most drawers.]

[Niko leans to watch him pilfer through the drawer. What are you doing there, sir? Should he be doing this? He comes over questioningly, holding the bottle of vodka.

There is nothing in those drawers!

That seems to boggle Niko. But he knows he can't even explain it through manic pictionary. Oh well, vodka is the important part here, and he gestures between Boone and the bottle and then Boone and himself.

He doesn't want to drink alone. That's just sad, even if no one can understand him.]

[Well, it's not really matter of whether he should be doing it or not. He's stolen a lot of ammo and caps traveling with Elle. Things other people could have used, sure, but he always cared more about keeping him and Elle alive and well. Now, it's just become a habit. A bad habit maybe, and he wouldn't steal from a friend, but he sometimes finds himself scanning a room for things he could take without even thinking about it now.

He looks between Niko and the bottle of vodka, and tilts his head in thought. He doesn't really know this guy, but it's like he figured before- if he was gonna hurt him, he would have done it when he had a gun in his hands. He shrugs and nods. He's been wanting a drink ever since he got here.]

[Good! Niko is cheered up a little. This can't last forever, can it? Of course it can't. He doesn't want to have to learn English all over again. He doesn't think this man would be patient enough to teach him and he probably wouldn't look as good in a low-cut top as his last instructor.

But this means they have to go all the way back to the dorms, back through gibbering. More English speakers. By the time he's back at his room he's glad to get there because his head hurts from trying to understand people. Having someone around that doesn't like to talk will be sort of a relief.]

[On the way back, Boone is silently grateful for the people still speaking English. It's good for him, because he wouldn't be smart enough to learn a new language. If there are people still speaking English around here, it means he doesn't have to.

When they get back to Niko's room he looks around briefly before sitting himself down on the couch. Luckily, it's not much of a walk back to his and Elle's room, so he's not too worried about how he's getting back later.]

[Niko goes to find a glass in the kitchenette thing (how they're there, he has no idea) and comes back to join Boone on the couch with a flop on the opposite end.

It's a big glass, and he fills most of it up before handing the bottle over to Boone. Then raises his drink.]

[He wouldn't have expected a half glass from Niko. He does the same- he always figures if he's gonna drink, he might as well do it properly. Half glasses are for when he doesn't actually want to get drunk. That's... not often.

He lifts his glass silently, then gets to drinking. Christ, it's good to have a drink again. He rummages in his pocket for his cigarettes, too, and holds them up questioningly. He doesn't know if Niko wants him smoking in his room- sometimes, people just don't like the smell.]

[He motions for him to go ahead. Sure. But he doesn't reach for one. Instead he goes for the tablet and a pencil again, because there's something he's been wondering.

When he's done, he holds up the picture and makes a motion for him to circle one of the numbers at the bottom before handing it over to Boone.]



[So are you dating or do you make sure she doesn't die or what?]

[Boone isn't all that surprised at the first question. They get asked that a lot when they travel together. He holds an unlit cigarette between his lips as he doodles back, and then hands the paper back.]

[Is that a dinosaur and a giant butterfly? In any case, he nods. At least that number two option seemed like a consideration. They were together when he arrived, but they didn't exactly greet each other romantically.

Still, there's that idiotic question about two people together that he stupidly felt the need to ask.

He just accepts that and drinks a little bit more (because conversations are hard when you have to draw them).]



[Then he taps the image of Elle being attacked. Things like that happen afterwards. With less monsters and more guns. He even pulls out his coins again to show he means money lenders there.]

[Boone headtilts at the drawing for a while. In the meantime, he lights his cigarette and has another mouthful of vodka. He takes a minute or so to draw his response, then hands it back again.]




[That stuff doesn't happen when you get your money mostly from looting dead bodies. Corpses can't stab you in the back.

Of course, now it looks like he murders people to get to their caps. The dead body in the drawing is supposed to be a raider, someone who would've attacked him first, but he can't exactly explain that to Niko right now.]

[Well, that's... kind of what it looks like. Not that Niko isn't hired to kill people, though, and it's a pretty standard way of life among his friends.

But he sort of makes a wince and points at the shooting and shakes his head. No, not an option for Roman. This? This is Roman.]



[And what ends up happening -along with more vodka, so he has to concentrate a little harder and ends up snorting as he erases an accidental extra leg. But here, this is the state of things.]

[Still, does he really need to keep him around if he's only going to be trouble? Or... well, in trouble. He doesn't know if it's Niko's lifestyle bringing danger to his stupid cousin, or if it's his stupid cousin causing all the trouble by being stupid.]

He doodles a response. He knows sometimes there are thunderstorms in deserts, so maybe Boone will get it. Maybe not.]
