CAMPUS WIDE EVENT: THE LANGUAGE BARRIER REINSTATED

[Today, something somewhere went wrong. On the evening on the 15th, any bilingual (or otherwise) knowledge granted by the Campus has simply...disappeared. At least for anybody walking by the North Wing.]

Tja ... det här kommer att lägga sordin på våra studier, är nu inte det?

[Translation: Well...this is going to put a damper on our studies, now isn't it?]

((ooc: So! For the next 5 days (the 15th~20th), your character officially only knows their native tongue. Aka, whatever language they primarily grew up with. They can no longer read, speak, or understand any other language but.

For fun you can even use Google Translate to show what your character is speaking at a glance! Don't worry, we all know it's probably gibberish :P

If you go the Google route, please be sure to put a translation at the bottom. If not, then please take care to specify what language your character is speaking in at the start of every thread.

If you have any questions, just head to the mod plurk or send this account a PM, but most importantly--have fun!))

[Clearly between Arcade and the Legion, Sibyll had underestimated how dead the language used to be. Whatever, Snake wasn't going to hear any more about it.]

It's the language of a couple of tribes that are living in Zion. The further you get from more civilized parts of the US, the more the language starts changing from something you recognize into something new. I guess because they didn't live near Vaults, where everyone spoke English. [If they survived life in the Vault.]

I don't know how the New Cannanites ever learned their language. I had to be taught stuff. Couldn't just pick it up on my own.

Huh. Interesting.

[ But... ]

How about Latin? You learn that in the Vault?

[It was always so helpful when others filled in her lies for her.]

Yep. It was either that or additional Vault maintenance class. I went with what I thought was the less boring option.
imthe_shit: (so many unanswered questions.)

Hnn... Guess there's not much you can do underground... People got bored, huh. [ Learning Latin... Even he didn't know Latin. There was just no need. ]

The Vaults are supposed to preserve culture, not just people. That's probably why I can still understand you and vice versa. Bet if we didn't have the Vaults everyone from my time would sound all funny to you. Probably speak something closer to Res.

[Apparently Latin that was still in the common vernacular was not erased. Though Sibyll does pronounce it oddly. It sounds more like 'vee-keh vehr-sah', with the 'v's being spoken more like a softer 'w'.]

imthe_shit: (i don't understand abstract art.)

... Weekeh wehrsah?

You mean vice versa?

Sorry, that's the 'right' way to pronounce it. My teacher really hammered in that bit. Made fun of us when we didn't do it right.

[Time to try and change the subject.]

Since you're so smart, I'll bet you didn't have any trouble in school. [She laughs, teasing him.]

[ Snake gives a bit of a laugh at that, folding his arms. ]

Hnn... Well, I didn't really go to a school, anyway... Just passed around different military families until I was old enough to enlist. Stuff was drilled into me from a young age.

In my genes to know all this stuff, I guess. [ Genes... ]
