CAMPUS WIDE EVENT: THE LANGUAGE BARRIER REINSTATED

[Today, something somewhere went wrong. On the evening on the 15th, any bilingual (or otherwise) knowledge granted by the Campus has simply...disappeared. At least for anybody walking by the North Wing.]

Tja ... det här kommer att lägga sordin på våra studier, är nu inte det?

[Translation: Well...this is going to put a damper on our studies, now isn't it?]

((ooc: So! For the next 5 days (the 15th~20th), your character officially only knows their native tongue. Aka, whatever language they primarily grew up with. They can no longer read, speak, or understand any other language but.

For fun you can even use Google Translate to show what your character is speaking at a glance! Don't worry, we all know it's probably gibberish :P

If you go the Google route, please be sure to put a translation at the bottom. If not, then please take care to specify what language your character is speaking in at the start of every thread.

[He doesn't get said picture as an insult. He does stare at it for a moment, wondering if that's a calendar or a box that Bakura is standing on. Not even quite figuring why someone would want to stand on top of the intercom if that's the case.

So with a sigh he doodles out an opinion. He points to the intercom, makes a "yak" motion with his hand, and shows this.]

[Bakura squints at the picture. It doesn't help that he no idea what a "+" or "=" is. The simplified stick-figure he can't quite figure out either. Is that the moon with a flower wilting beside it?

...He understands the butt and the intercom at least! So to that he nods and snickers under his breath. He'd been trying to say the woman on the intercom was lower than even the soles of his shoes, but calling her an ass (or something like that) works for him.

Leaning over, he taps questionably on the stick figure and then shrugs his shoulder to signify a question.

Explain! That's what he's asking.]

[Again he makes a talk motion in front of his mouth, but this time he speaks.] Она прави буку. [She makes noise. Then he points from the stick person to the poorly scribbled microphone. Then adds in a line to the intercom.]

Ово је срање. Научио сам овај језик на своје! [He grunts. Dammit. He learned that language fair and square. He doodles another quick thing, then speaks as he shows it.]



Где је жалба кутија? [Where is the complaint box?] Морам да идем повраћање у њој. [I need to go vomit in it.

Okay, it's not exactly what he's saying but he doesn't know how to draw a complaint box. Or if they even have one.]

... [Yeah, he's not getting it. Maybe if he weren't form Ancient Egypt, it'd help. Although he does realize the stick-figure is supposed to be a person now, so that's a step up!

He leans over Niko's paper and, taking a pencil, draws a little knife going into the intercom. Leaning back again so the other man can see, he chuckles.

Bakura is very mature, obviously.]

[Niko is 30 years old and he still smiles in approval. There's always a level of dumb boy you can't outgrow, especially when someone takes away your ability to communicate.

He gives him a nod, before pointing at the figure on the intercom, shifting to a more questioning expression, and just gestures around.

Would he know where to find them? No one has so far.]

[Bakura's pleased to see Niko approve. Anybody who approves of trashing the intercom is good in his book. Of course stabbing it may lead to electrocution...which is not so good.

He takes but a moment to figure out what Niko was asking and, returning with a scowl, shakes his head "no." Pausing, Bakura then points up towards the ceiling and shrugs.]

[How does one ask "does this happen a lot?" in stick figure form. He's not sure he can.

So he goes for another question. He draws a sun and a moon the very best he can.]



[He shows it to Bakura, points at the sun and makes two tally marks under it, and points to himself. Just two days here. Then he gives Bakura a questioning look and hands him the paper.

What would he give for a calendar right now.]

[Two. The Sun and the Moon.

Bakura takes the paper, thinks he understands the question, and then realizes he hasn't been keeping track of time. Instead he shrugs and makes a looping gesture several times with his hand, as if to say "many".]

[How long can people stay here?

Oh this language barrier is a pain in the ass. After a couple of attempts to motion outside and indicate the weather- trying to work out a way to ask if it's been over a year? Instead he nearly shoots the intercom.

But that urge only lasts for a second, and his pistol is put back away.]

[Good question. Bakura knows the answer: too long.

However, what he doesn't know is the question. Niko's sign language is fruitless, and it looks like the Thief King is starting to zone out on him until he pulls out the gun.

Bakura grins like a wolf, pointing towards the holstered weapon and then at the intercom. He nods in enthusiastic approval.

Come on, shoot it! It serves that bitch right. It also saves him from being electrocuted trying to stab it.]

[He shrugs and gestures at it hatefully and dismissively. It wouldn't do any good. In fact it would probably just get him laughed at, and now he's not in the mood to be laughed at.

He's in the mood to get piss drunk and try not to worry he just dumped a whole language out of his head.]

[Bakura wouldn't mind getting piss drunk himself; too bad they can't share that sentiment in a way either would understand.

But for now Bakura will just pout irritably at Niko, looking fully disappointed by the fact he didn't shoot the damn thing. If Niko won't, then Bakura will.

Glancing sidelong, he pulls out a spare dagger and carelessly tosses it at the intercom, hitting it fairly off center and causing the thing to spark and fizzle out.]

[He wonders how often this happens. Probably a lot. He uses his glove to yank out the knife so he doesn't shock himself, flipping it over in his hand so that he can hand it back hilt first to Bakura.]

[Bakura shrugs and takes the knife back.]

[I still can't fucking understand you.

He's sort of at a loss here. Having nobody understand you, was just one more thing to deal with in this damn place. Pouting, he finds himself missing the spirits of Kul Elna. They couldn't talk, but communication with them had never been difficult. Maybe he was just used to it.

After a moment of just standing there he shrugs again, indicating his frustration and loss.

Then he makes a little controller holding and button-pushing gesture.]

[Buttons- what? He'd pulled out his cell phone. He'd been saving batteries on it, but he turned it on for this. His is a touch screen, but then his brows go up when he looks at it.

He can't understand his own cell phone. That is bullshit.]

Eh?

[What the fuck is that?

Bakura leans in to get a better look at the screen, narrowing his eyes at it. Was it some sort of "card"? It looked flat enough. He pokes at it with his finger, moving some buttons around and accidentally deleting some shortcuts in the process.]
