PERMANENT EVENT: A WHOLE NEW FRONTIER
[Surely it was too early for another announcement, right...? But then there it is, that tell-tale electronic feedback screeching through the halls before a mature female voice resonates through it.]
The doors are unlocked.
[That's all she says. Those who are curious might test the front doors...and they'll find that they open not to the seemingly civilized outskirts of town as the now vanished view from the roof may have made you think, but to the horizon. Likewise that barrier and its lies blocking anybody's escape via the roof or sky has collapsed, leaving the air a tad bit...more temperamental. You see, there was weather now.
Out from the front doors of the Campus can be see an expanse of land and then the sea. Anybody who ventures out further will find that they're still trapped, only in a bigger cage. This new cage is now five miles across the diameter at its longest point. The island itself is about as varied as it comes: covered jungles, a cave system, a single stream leading up to a freshwater lake, and a lone mountain near the center. One part near the front of the school is home to a sometimes-pleasant sandy shore ripe for the hunting sea life. Everywhere else is a perilous cliff fall into the sea.
Anybody who tries to escape via the sea will find the riptide tearing them back to a cave near the shore.]
((This event is a permanent setting expansion, you can read more about it here as well as in the island setting page near the bottom here. Have fun, if you have any questions simply address them to the OOC post, plurk, or AIM if applicable, and please don't forget to tag your series!))

[Matt opens his palms and extends them to his sides for a shrug.]
I mean, 'garbage' - between using it to describe a cyber god and then again for computer components, I just have this feeling that you don't care to know.
no subject
[It doesn't really bother him either way.] And unlike you, I don't need to worry about repairing anything. I already have a working computer.
[He just wants to rub it in your face.]
no subject
... Which means he'll have to play nice with the guy. Maybe he shouldn't have insulted his little trading card game when they first met.]
You know, here we are trading quips when I don't recall either of us introducing ourselves.
no subject
Hm! And I don't recall caring who you are, Cyber Fool.
[He raises a hand, clenching it into a fist.] I, on the other hand, am Seto Kaiba. Head of KaibaCorp. It's pretty pathetic you don't even know that.
no subject
If it were a corporation worth noting, Mr. Loren would have had me keep an eye on its funds. There are a few others that I hold a personal interest in and I'm afraid that particular one is not on the radar.
[Matt crosses his arms. There, that was polite enough. Better than 'oh, no - you're delusional, there isn't a company by that name and if there is, it isn't making an impact on the market so it's not worth knowing about'.]
no subject
[This man was an even bigger fool than he'd thought! Kaiba can't help but laugh. Who knew his nickname was so befitting?]
no subject
No, I haven't. If it were as successful as you say it is, the money you had would have been taken from you in gradual increments and used to help pay expenses for the DeWynter sisters' trafficking operation. Of course, once that became suspicious, it would coincide with a shocking news report - fabricated of course - concerning... your company. Or perhaps a story about you. When stocks start to plummet, there would be a hostile take over and-- well. Allow me to finish by saying that you should be grateful your company never caught the eye of the Syndicate's leader.
no subject
[Ironically enough, his stocks already had been plummeting...due to the fact he was in a coma, of course.]
I don't care about your crackpot theories or grandiose illusions. [He'll investigate such claims at a later date, once he's out of here. But right now he was feeling a bit sore at being reminded about how his company deteriorated during his absence.]
Don't you get it? You're worthless to me, and nothing you do is going to change that.
no subject
Nothing at all? If you lend me either your computer or enough parts to build one of my own - good components, either high grade or with overclock capability - then I can code just about anything you'd like. Viruses, worms, I can set up DDOS attacks, backdoors.
[... And if it wasn't obvious enough that he's trying to butter the CEO up:]
... Or even that card game you insisted I try. How interested are you in creating a computer version capable of online and LAN play?
Matt: digging through the core of the earth right now
Why would I need you to do something I can easily do myself?
[The suggestion of online or LAN play only disgusts him. He sweeps one hand out in a grandiose gesture.]
Don't insult me. Duels are meant to be a personal battle of power and wits between two duelists--to separate them between a computer screen would not only be an injustice, but a disgrace! I didn't develop Solid Vision, the Duel Boxes, or my new Duel Disk system just to forgo them for a keyboard!
[That, and he didn't own the rights to Duel Monsters, he simply was in a contract to make peripherals. But even then, he had no interest.]
He's getting pretty good at that 'digging his own grave' thing.
That 'disgraceful computer screen' would connect people from clear across the globe! You're limiting yourself if you truly believe that you can't get the same experience online that you can dueling someone in person. People that don't share the same language could easily pick it up and it would be a universal experience instead of limited to a local audience.
he's dug a shortcut to China at this point
It's not a belief, but a fact.
Do you seriously think you have any idea of what you're talking about? It's pathetic. [He leers, reaching over to gather something form his briefcase.]
How about I give you a demonstration about why your "online play" could never possibly compare to the real thing? [A small smirk tugs at his lips now, as if he were planning something devious.]
no subject
As someone that's met a good portion of their friends and associates through either gaming or coding online, yes. I believe I do know.
[His PVC jacket squeaks as he crosses his arms. Leer all you want, Kaiba. You aren't that intimidating
unless your hostility turns physical and then Matt will cower or flee because he's had enough chairs upside his head, thanks.]Boasting about a win over someone unfamiliar to the rules hardly seems worth it - and it wouldn't prove your point.
no subject
[Kaiba pulls his duel disk over his arm and reaches for his deck, inserting it into the proper slot and drawing five cards--the Blue-Eyes White Dragon, of course, was among them.]
I'm just going to show you why online play could never possibly compare.
[Placing the card down on the peripheral disk, Kaiba then throws the object out. It hits the ground, spinning, and a massive Blue-Eyes appears above it. In front of him, four cards also appear to signify his hand.]
Tell me, Cyber Fool, can your online play do this?
no subject
... By using something called the NEMO chair, a person is capable of projecting their subconscious mind online and shaping the data to whatever they see fit. While there is the risk of becoming brain dead - and really, it's only if you die while inside the simulation - it does have the perk of being much more exhilarating than the usual romp. So yes, actually. My online play can do it and better.
no subject
I'm sure that's great. [He starts off, sarcastic.] If you're a shut-in or a NEET.
