PERMANENT EVENT: A WHOLE NEW FRONTIER

[Surely it was too early for another announcement, right...? But then there it is, that tell-tale electronic feedback screeching through the halls before a mature female voice resonates through it.]

The doors are unlocked.

[That's all she says. Those who are curious might test the front doors...and they'll find that they open not to the seemingly civilized outskirts of town as the now vanished view from the roof may have made you think, but to the horizon. Likewise that barrier and its lies blocking anybody's escape via the roof or sky has collapsed, leaving the air a tad bit...more temperamental. You see, there was weather now.

Out from the front doors of the Campus can be see an expanse of land and then the sea. Anybody who ventures out further will find that they're still trapped, only in a bigger cage. This new cage is now five miles across the diameter at its longest point. The island itself is about as varied as it comes: covered jungles, a cave system, a single stream leading up to a freshwater lake, and a lone mountain near the center. One part near the front of the school is home to a sometimes-pleasant sandy shore ripe for the hunting sea life. Everywhere else is a perilous cliff fall into the sea.

Anybody who tries to escape via the sea will find the riptide tearing them back to a cave near the shore.]

((This event is a permanent setting expansion, you can read more about it here as well as in the island setting page near the bottom here. Have fun, if you have any questions simply address them to the OOC post, plurk, or AIM if applicable, and please don't forget to tag your series!))

I suppose you could if you wanted. ... Of course, you have to consider what our host has shown us so far; they probably have a electromagnetic pulse setup around the island to prevent aeroplanes and helicopters from passing over.

['Aeroplanes'. If the English accent wasn't obvious before, it is now.]

I'm not so sure about boats. That may be the route to go if you really want to get off the island. So... [Matt shrugs his shoulders and shakes his head. That doesn't leave a lot of options for the other person.] Smoke signal, maybe?

Electro-what? Enough with the geek-speak, already.

[Kirby huffs an annoyed sigh.]

I'd have to start a fire.

[Which he has never done before, judging by the undertone of dread as he speaks those words.]

[Did he just say 'geek-speak'? Ugh. Matt responds dryly:]

It's a burst of energy that overloads a system. To put it into idiot terminology: if there's anything flying near the EMP, it'll come crashing to the ground.

[Arson isn't exactly his or - by extension - his gang's forte. True, there is the occasional foot soldier that would handle the dirty work but it was mostly work left to the Brutes. Or Luchadors. They were basically the same thing, if you asked him.]

... And if you're going to catch a boat's attention, it'll have to be big. Good luck finding the materials.
servingpoundcake: (SHOES :D)

[Kirby grits his teeth. "Idiot terminology"?]

I'll do just fine! [No he won't how does one even start a fire? How does one who is terrified of fire start a fire? Whatever he's already boasting.] And call me an idiot again -- you'll regret it!

[Kirby is small, he knows this. But he manages that threat with the utmost confidence.]
deckers: (let this decadence take its grasp)

[Well, at least the other boy isn't so thick that the insult goes right over his head. He's a touch smarter than he gave him credit for.

Holding both hands up as a conceding gesture, Matt takes a couple of steps back. He's small as well - hasn't quite hit his growth spurt yet - so even if the jock isn't towering over him, his verbal threat still holds merit. Especially considering Matt's physical strength leaves much to be desired.]

Sure. So where is it you plan on looking?

[Kirby calms down a little bit. He's used to people backing down when he brings out the threats -- it was familiar. Which is good.]

I don't know. The jungle? It can't be that hard.

[Admittedly Kirby is less afraid of the idea of going into a jungle than the idea of being anywhere near a fire. Maybe when time comes to make the signal he can force Tajima to do it or something.]
