CAMPUS WIDE EVENT: EVERYTHING AND THE KITCHEN SINK

[Hopefully everybody likes waking up outside.

Because as it were, in the middle of the night when everybody had been asleep or lulled into a sudden one by the sheer weight of the air around them...the Campus disappeared in its entirety. Left behind was only the cool surface of the concrete foundation.

For now it seems the residents were left to fend for themselves in the wilderness of the island. Not even the voice from over the intercom would comfort them.]

((ooc: the school has disappeared, along with all the NPCs and everything that was inside! no opt-out areas this time around. The temperature is cool during the day, and colder at night.

The event will last until October 20th, and I'll post a closer to signify it. Everything will be returned to its rightful place then.))

"Ha, I don't need sleep." Okay, not quite true. "Well, I'd get on okay, I've done it before."

Kai gives her a quick hug. "You shouldn't let that stop you. If you're afraid of it..." He trails off, biting his lip. "Even if they did get hurt, you might be saving them from something worse."

I'd still feel bad if you did that for me, though. Just sleeping inside somewhere would be enough, I think. Just as long as it's not in the open.

[She turns her head into the hug a little, sighing somewhat.]

Maybe... I don't know for sure.

"Nothing to feel bad about, I want to look after you!"

Ugh, fighting the blush and winning, yay. Kai sighs, keeping his arm around her loosely.

"Try not to worry about it right now. I mean, everything's okay, just ignore the building going on vacation. No one's trying to hurt anybody right now, so."

You... huh? Why?

[It's not that the idea itself is strange, more that he's just so out with it. She blinks a little, giving him a confused look.]

Yeah... but I doubt it'll stay that way. Especially with how cold it is and the lack of... anything.

Idiot idiot idiot.

"You're my friend, and-"

He wants to say it, he really does, but having her as a friend is good and he doesn't want to screw that up and he's not even sure if he has the guts.

For Light's sake, he can fight Heartless and wield Darkness and he can't even tell a girl he likes her.

He'll just swing around to the other half of the conversation. Chickening out? Yep.

"Hopefully this won't last long. I mean, the other weird stuff that's happened...things are usually back to normal in a few days. Maybe the weirdos will behave." Not likely. "It'll be okay, no matter what."

...And? Is there something else?

[She frowns a little, clearly curious, tilting her head some even as she moves the fire a little. But then he changes the conversation...

Well. Oh well.]

I hope so, too. But I think it'd be okay even if it didn't, maybe... for me, at least.

He thought he'd feel better if he got away with not saying anything. Nope. Now his stomach's just doing this nice twisting he's going to try and ignore.

Maybe if he just blurts it out? Why does he feel like he's in grade school augh.

"What, you want to just live out here?" He's going to make a little face at that. He's gotten used to having running water and things again pretty quick. But maybe that's not what she means.

"Want"? No, not at all. But I could. It would be worse living alone, and I don't have to do that here.

[He doesn't want to say it, huh... she won't press.]

"I'd rather..."

And his concentration is slipping, because the flame hovering near Karasu is starting to flicker before it vanishes entirely. When it does, Kai comes to a dead stop and lets go of her, bringing his hand up to smack his forehead. Suck it up, Kai.

"...You're my friend and I really like you. As in 'I think you're the prettiest girl I've ever met' like."

Wow, the twisting just got worse, there. Okay. But at least he said it, no matter how it turns out.

[The prettiest...

Oh. Oh. She thinks she gets it.]

Kai-kun...

[Oh, geeze... how can she say this?]

Even if it's really dumb, I still love Bakura-kun.

[It hurts a little to admit, but she won't lie about this. She closes her eyes, running a hand through her hair slowly, then glances off deeper into the forest.]

But... I really like spending time around you. You're someone who isn't scared of that other side of me, and you've been trying to help me with it, even. Just encouraging me to not be afraid, or believing that I can do things even I don't believe. And because of it, I really like you. You're a really good friend to me.

[And... now's the hard part.]

But the truth is... I don't know if it's because I love you too, or if it's because Bakura-kun doesn't feel the same about me and I just... don't want to be alone. It wasn't really that long ago that it happened, and even if I feel okay with everything myself, I'm scared that I'd just be using you. If I was, eventually, those feelings would go away... and you're someone I care about, so I don't want to hurt you.

...I'm sorry. This doesn't make sense, does it?

Ouch.

Almost overwhelming urge to go smack Bakura rising...Nope, bad. He's better than that. He thinks, anyway. Kai just watches her while she talks, hand still up. He's mostly peering through his fingers at her. And it's not just his stomach twisting all of a sudden.

"Naw, it makes perfect sense. I should've waited, anyway, but-" Kai lets out a soft laugh and shakes his head, letting his hand fall. "I'm still your friend, though. I'll still protect you."

He smiles faintly, shoving his hands into his pockets. Well. It's probably going to be an awkward next few days now. Go Kai.

I don't mind it. I mean... if I really do like you that way, I wouldn't mind... trying to make something. I just want to be sure so we're both happy, you know?

[She smiles a bit, fidgeting with her hair some more.]

Hah... who'd think I'd be talking about this sort of thing around here?

"Ha, here's hoping." Kai flashes her a grin and then laughs, freeing his hands so he can grab one of her's and gently tug her along. Trees, trees, and more trees. Doesn't seem like that big of a deal, suddenly.

"I know, I didn't even talk about this kind of stuff back home. There was a friend here that I did, but I was trying to make up for teasing him about a girl he liked, so I let him ask me anything. He wanted to know who I had a crush on. At the time, no one." That's a lot better than admitting 'no one ever'.

"Oh hey, I've been meaning to ask, when's your birthday? I want to know how much time I have to fail at making something epic."

[She seems a bit surprised by him grabbing her hand, but she smiles back a bit stronger, closing hers over his tight enough so she can't slip out.]

I've never really had anyone close enough to confess or anyone to talk about it with before even if I did, at least not in a really long time. So it's... well, kind of weird. Not a bad weird, though.

Ah... it's December 7th. You don't have to do anything, though.

"That's...kind of sad. At least I could've gone to my uncle. Too embarrassing talking to my dad about it." And his mom wasn't there to tell anything to.

Kai squeezes her hand before his face lights up at the date. Really? "Hey, that's great! Mine's the 13th. Maybe we should throw ourselves a party." Dork. "But I want to. Even if I just draw something nice for you. Everybody deserves something on their birthday."

Maybe it was. I never really thought too much about it.

[She smiles again at the squeeze, using her free hand to brush some of the hair out of her face with a laugh.]

Really? That is pretty close to mine! Maybe we can throw the party on the 10th. Between both of our birthdays!

[Heh... Kai, you really are something, aren't you?]

I'll have to figure out something good to get you, then... I've never been great at gifts, so you have to like it even if it's terrible.

"I'll bake us a cake." He pauses for a second, then shakes his head with a laugh. "Try and bake a cake. I'm better with the cookies."

Hey, he thinks he sees a clearing. Whether it's their's or not, he can't tell yet. He hopes so, getting that fire built would be great. Kai glances over at Karasu with a teasing smile.

"I'd be happy if you got me a rock." Oh, he is a dork. "Don't worry about it."

I'd like a cake. I don't think I've baked one of those in a long time.

[Oh, there it is. Karasu moves ahead a little, rubbing her arm and blowing out a bit. Sheesh...]

Thank god, this is it! There's the cave right there, too!

"I'll dig up some cookbooks then, once the library's back. If it comes back."

Ugh, not thinking about that. The fact that he was right about the clearing cheers him up though, and he hurries to catch up.

"I'll find some wood, you can just sit if you want- here." A moment later there's a flame about the size of a bowling ball almost resting on the ground in the middle of the clearing. Surprisingly the twigs aren't on fire yet. Kai stops and gives it a critical look. He can keep that there for a few minutes and not burn the forest down, right?

With his luck...

Sighing, he gestures and the fire shrinks a bit while also rising about a foot higher. Better.

Thanks, Kai! I'll warm up for a bit.

[Karasu sinks down next to the fire, holding out her hands and staying just far away enough that she doesn't get burned.]

You sure you don't need help, though?

"Naw, I think I've got it."

He pretty much seems to, as it doesn't take long for him to gather kindling and then some bigger branches, although there's an amusing moment where he manages to trip himself dragging one back. He just scrambles to his feet and totally ignores that it ever happened. No problem! Once he's finally got the wood where he needs it, he takes a break and flops onto the ground beside Karasu, eyeing the flame. He'll move that in a minute. Really.

"You get to gather fruit or something, because yeah..."

Kai waves a hand in the air and lets it fall. Tired? Just a bit.

[Karasu giggles a little when he trips, moving over to help as she can with the rest of it. She piles it up when he flops down, getting things settled into a comfortable campsite -- or at least as much of one as they can make -- before she stretches out herself and moves to warm up again.]

Kai-kun, I'm going to go tell Bakura-kun where we are, all right? He was really worried about something happening, so I promised I'd let him know where my camp was so he and Malik could hide somewhere nearby. They won't be coming around here -- Malik doesn't like me -- but I'm afraid they'll freeze to death if I don't actually help them out with catching bears or whatever else has thick fur...

Sorry. I know it's probably annoying, but Bakura-kun saved my life and took care of me. What kind of friend would I be if I ignored him now that I can help?

Initially the only response to that is the fire doing this odd sort of jump, but Kai only blinks from his spot on the ground. What can he really say? Voicing his disagreement's only going to cause problems, right?

Ugh. Well, at least they won't- wait, what?

"What's Malik's problem?" He pushes himself up on his elbows, frowning. Actually, Malik's a problem in himself. Kai hasn't forgotten how he weirded him out in the library.

He's lonely and very jealous, so he doesn't like me because I have a crush on Bakura-kun and tried to actually... you know, start something with him. He's had even a worse life than I have, so I can't really blame him for being afraid of someone like that. It's why Bakura-kun and I will always just be friends, and why I try to avoid Malik when I can. I don't mind it, really.

[Phoo. Warm is good, and she almost doesn't want to leave.]

Okay, so should he be thanking Malik for being another reason why he might have a chance with Karasu someday?

Nope.

"I understand wanting to help, but maybe it's not that great an idea having them so close if Malik's got issues."

Kai forces himself up all the way and gestures at the fire, watching it float over to the wood before it catches. Good, now he can stop trying to mind it.

"Want me to go with? I mean, I'm sure you'll be okay, but you know."

Why couldn't he just magic up a tent to throw at the Creeper and Creeper jr, geeze.
