CAMPUS WIDE EVENT: THE LANGUAGE BARRIER REINSTATED
[Today, something somewhere went wrong. On the evening on the 15th, any bilingual (or otherwise) knowledge granted by the Campus has simply...disappeared. At least for anybody walking by the North Wing.]
Tja ... det här kommer att lägga sordin på våra studier, är nu inte det?
[Translation: Well...this is going to put a damper on our studies, now isn't it?]
((ooc: So! For the next 5 days (the 15th~20th), your character officially only knows their native tongue. Aka, whatever language they primarily grew up with. They can no longer read, speak, or understand any other language but.
For fun you can even use Google Translate to show what your character is speaking at a glance! Don't worry, we all know it's probably gibberish :P
If you go the Google route, please be sure to put a translation at the bottom. If not, then please take care to specify what language your character is speaking in at the start of every thread.
If you have any questions, just head to the mod plurk or send this account a PM, but most importantly--have fun!))

[That's actual magic. Actually seeing it is pretty shocking even though he knows it exists. And it being used so casually means this person is pretty used to it. But why had he done that? Glancing from the book to the spell, he has an idea, but he isn't sure. Was this book magic? Lifting a hand, he points from himself to the book, looking questioningly at Kai.]
no subject
Um...
[He really hates this place sometimes. He taps the book again, then flicks one of the marbles. He's hoping he can get across that yes, the book can teach magic. Maybe not this spell, but he can't explain that at the moment.]
no subject
That's pretty impressive.
[If only Yugi had taken sign language classes. Not that they'd be much good if nobody else here had taken them. Oh well. He was nothing if not stubborn. Reaching out, he taps the side of the book, making as if to turn the page.
Can he look?]
no subject
Most of the time, anyway.
He frowns when the other boy touches the book, and then it clicks. Oh. For-]
Yeah, go ahead! Not like I can read this one anyway.
[He pushes it over, then gathers his marbles back into his hand to play with.]
no subject
He can't help but glance over at the marbles every so often, however. That's a pretty cool talent.
Pun entirely intended.]
no subject
...Why didn't I just disperse it, geeze.
[He hurriedly wipes his hand off on his jeans before looking up at his companion. They can at least understand each other's names, right?]
Hey.
[Kai waits for him to look up before he taps his own chest.]
Kai.
no subject
Lifting a hand, he points to himself in an almost dramatic fashion.]
Yugi.
[It's probably a good thing that Kai doesn't speak ancient Egyptian or Japanese because the difference between the name and the language he's using would be pretty evident if he was. As it is, saying the name feels oddly foreign with his words in this state.]
no subject
Nice to meet you.
[He really hopes this mess doesn't last as long as he thinks it's going to; he'd rather be able to understand what his new friends are saying. Assuming he's actually making one now and not just getting himself into trouble somehow.]
no subject
Karasu told me about you.
[He might at least be able to pick out the name. Though the pronunciation is off. With his newly found language problem, it comes out more as "Karashew".]
no subject
Oh. She must have mentioned him. Kai's cheeks flush a little at that. Here's to hoping it wasn't anything involving his apparent overuse of Darkness. Of course, if she had, he doubts Yugi would be this friendly.]
Ha, Karasu. Yeah, she's- um.
[Why the hell is he suddenly flustered talking about her? Really Kai, grow up. He gives an awkward shrug and shifts in his chair.]
no subject
He reaches down to his waist to unfasten his deck pouch, retrieving one of the cards he'd put away. Waving that at him might explain what Karasu and he were talking about.]
no subject
What're you- ah.
[The cards again. And Karasu...They'd been discussing the cards, then? Well, that made sense. Kai nods and pats his chest. He's been carrying at least one of his cards with him lately, in his shirt pocket. It's not at all visible under the hoodie though.]
Hang on a second...
[Kai tugs his hoodie off, hissing slightly as the sleeve pulls over the scar on his forearm. The pain's quickly forgotten as he carefully pulls the Light and Darkness Dragon out of his pocket to show Yugi.]
Just got this one. It's my favorite already.

no subject
Still trying to figure things out, but I like the way this one feels. It's like me. Or maybe I'm like it.
[He frowns and sets the card on the table before sighing. Once they find the witch running this place, oh boy. He reaches up and rubs the bridge of his nose in frustration.]
no subject
no subject
That's...wow. My deck's still disorganized.
[Karasu's been helping a lot, but really, he hasn't quite settled on some things yet.]
no subject
These cards are the deck that we made together.
no subject
Really cool.
[He looks up at his voice, curious. They're going to have to talk again once everything makes sense. Kai smiles faintly, shaking his head, before he lays both arms on the table so he can spread the cards out more and not drop them. That's a mistake, as damn it he keeps forgetting.]
Ow!
[Here Yugi, you get your cards back so he can check his arm. That hoodie's going back on in a minute.]

At least it's kind of in the middle there, and not closer to my elbow. It was my own fault, I need to stop pissing off Bakura.
[A slight eye-roll at that, because really, he doesn't think it's possible. Some people are alcoholics, and apparently Kai's a 'Piss off the Creeper for fun' kind of guy. But acknowledging that he has a problem's the first step, right?]
no subject
[At the name, he tenses. Bakura-? Karasu had mentioned he was here, but she'd never made it clear which one was in control. With the way she talked, it implied Bakura-kun, rather than the dark spirit, had been the one hanging around... But this wound was in no way that soft boy's work. His lip curls in anger and he lets Kai's arm go.]
You should be more careful around that guy. He's dangerous.
[...yeah, stating the obvious.]
no subject
You've met him too?
[Ugh. Where's his can of bug spray when he needs it? He slips his card back into the shirt pocket before tugging his hoodie on. Once his head's through, he speaks again, as useless as it is.]
I'm baking Ryou a cake once the Creeper's finally gone...though I don't know how the hell we'll manage that.
[Really, he makes Kai think of a cockroach that survives being nuked.]
no subject
...then Bakura is here as well as the spirit?
[That's something, at least. It means his soul has not yet been supressed by the dark spirit. Yugi resurfaces in his mind at this conversation, sounding worried, but there's nothing he can say to reassure him. Being able to communicate... it's a blessing he has been failing to appreciate, it seems.]
no subject
...We've really got to talk once this is over.
[Sighing, he pushes his bangs out of his eyes and sits back up, tapping his chest and then motioning toward the library door. He should get back.]
no subject
Take care, Kai.
