CAMPUS WIDE EVENT: THE LANGUAGE BARRIER REINSTATED
[Today, something somewhere went wrong. On the evening on the 15th, any bilingual (or otherwise) knowledge granted by the Campus has simply...disappeared. At least for anybody walking by the North Wing.]
Tja ... det här kommer att lägga sordin på våra studier, är nu inte det?
[Translation: Well...this is going to put a damper on our studies, now isn't it?]
((ooc: So! For the next 5 days (the 15th~20th), your character officially only knows their native tongue. Aka, whatever language they primarily grew up with. They can no longer read, speak, or understand any other language but.
For fun you can even use Google Translate to show what your character is speaking at a glance! Don't worry, we all know it's probably gibberish :P
If you go the Google route, please be sure to put a translation at the bottom. If not, then please take care to specify what language your character is speaking in at the start of every thread.
If you have any questions, just head to the mod plurk or send this account a PM, but most importantly--have fun!))

[Tenar looks at his hand, then brings it up to press against his own chest, approximating about where the prongs would fall with where it rested on Bakura.
He... does not like what this seems to be.]
That's really close to some important stuff... and those things can go really deep, I bet...
no subject
He's not going to kill him, at least. Kind of needs him, after all.
[Kai sighs, shifting against the wall in an effort to get comfortable.]
I tend to see him more than Ryou these days. It's irritating. 'Course, I think him seeing me is just as bad. [What smirk, there's nothing there. Stop being proud of all the wrong things, boy.] Though if you ever meet Ryou...he's a good person.
But be careful around Bakura. He's really good at twisting things, and trust me, you don't want to piss him off. Be kind of neat if I listened to my own advice, actually.
no subject
[Tenar looks over, tilting his head at the smirk and fiddling with his bandana.]
Bakura was pretty nice to me, actually. He is creepy, but maybe he's not completely bad. I'll still be careful, though.
[If nothing else, he knows how quickly people can turn sour, so he won't fully trust someone he just met. His hand slides up under the bandana, resting on the small bag that's well-hidden under it.]
Hey, Kai... do you have somewhere you could carry a small thing on you?
no subject
[But the kid being careful is really all he can ask for, right? Kai rubs at the bridge of his nose. Light, he thinks Bakura's starting to give him migraines now. What a shocker that is. The question makes him glance back over, confused.]
Um, my pockets? Unless I figure out if I can keep stuff wherever my Keychains go when they're not in use.
no subject
[That's why he has his on a pouch around his neck, after all.]
no subject
Kai just sort of stares for a second before nodding.]
I remember. But my Cure magic'll fix- okay, once I've fully learned it it'll fix a lot. You don't have that many, right? So you should keep them.
[But he's already considering where he could put something like that and not have to worry about losing or forgetting it...or having the school abscond with it as a joke.]
Ummm. Let me try something. [Who knows if it'll even work. He holds out a hand and concentrates, and moments later the Keychain for Howling Flame is resting in his palm. Setting it in his lap, he pulls a loose thread off the edge of his hoodie pocket and ties it to the flame-shaped piece of metal.]
Be nifty if this works.
[A small flash of light and both Keychain and thread are gone. Kai takes a deep breath and tries to will only the thread back. Maybe...]
HA! [He holds up the black thread and grins at Tenar.] Now I know I can get it back. I should probably tie it to one I don't use that often, though.
no subject
[He watches what Kai's doing curiously, then grins a little when the thread comes back.]
Hey, it works! We should probably tie it to a pouch or something, though, so the Senzu can't just slip out.
But there's a good place to put it!
no subject
Yeah, we are. I'll be careful with it. Thanks.
[He snickers as he flicks the thread away into the air.] I've got a little one I've been keeping erasers in, I could use that.
no subject
[He nods a little, leaning on his hands some.]
Lemme see it?
no subject
Sure, it's back in the room...wait a second.
[Does he feel like going back down to fetch the pouch? No, no he doesn't. So he'll just open the smallest portal possible (completely arm-sized) and root around in there for a few moments.] I think I'm next to the dresser- OW. Yep, found it.
[Faint rustling noises can be heard, as if he's digging blindly through a box, which is exactly what he's doing. Kai finally pulls his arm free and closes the portal, emptying a few pencil-top erasers out of the small grey pouch.]
Here you go!
no subject
Hmm....]
Yeah, this should be okay!
[He reaches into the pouch under his bandana, digging into it and pulling out one of the Senzu Beans. It gets deposited into the eraser pouch, which gets firmly tied closed (though Tenar's careful not to tie it so tight that Kai won't be able to get it open).]
Here you go!
[Think fast!]
no subject
Thanks again! Now to put it away.
[Okay, a Keychain he doesn't use that often...Well, not Howling Flame, actually. Sure, it doesn't come out as often as the other two, but still. Fire these days is always good. That leaves Heart's Shadow, and Kai shifts uncomfortably. While he's gotten a lot more used to it since December, the urge to use it has been stronger. Considering what he's been up to lately, he shouldn't be surprised.]
Here's to hoping I don't need it, right?
[The little Heartless Shadow Keychain manifests in his hand a moment later, and Kai fastens the two together using the pouch's drawstrings before sending it back.]
no subject
He doesn't miss the look on Kai's face, tilting his head a little as he eyes the keychain curiously.
...that sure is a keychain, yup. He can't see anything wrong with it.]
Why? Is it annoying to use?
[...Oh right! There was one thing he forgot to mention when talking about the "Creeper" earlier.]
Um... I think Bakura likes you.
no subject
Not really. Just...
[Does he even have words for this. Running his fingers back through his hair, Kai closes his eyes while he thinks.]
...It's complicated.
[That's not an answer, Kai. He pretty much forgets about even trying to come up with one that makes sense when he hears that. His eyes blink open and he stares at Tenar, confused.]
Uh, not like that, he doesn't. Maybe he likes me at the top of his 'Must kill someday' list, but- how'd that even come up if no one can understand each other?
no subject
[He's not really sure what Kai means, but he gets the feeling that Kai really doesn't want to talk about it, so he'll let it drop there. At the confusion, he just shrugs.]
I was feeling lonely so I was just talking and I said your name. When he recognized it, I said it again and he drew a heart in the air.
So...
no subject
Wow. Really missing his dad suddenly.]
He- [Palm, meet face. Oh Light.]
That jerk. [He peeks around his fingers at Tenar before letting out a soft laugh.] Ignore him.
[His hand drops and he reaches over to muss Tenar's hair.] I know it sucks being stuck here, but we'll get out eventually. In the meantime you've got me and Surge, and whoever else you end up making friends with. That's something.
no subject
[It's not like he could really figure out what Bakura was saying anyway, what with him speaking some random garbled language that made him sound like a broken speech program.
Tenar blinks as his hair's ruffled, moving up to shove at Kai's hands playfully. Quuuiiittt you're gonna make it come out of the ponytail!]
It's not really that bad. I mean, it's kinda like back home, with all the forest and no city and everything, though I didn't live on an island. But you were gone, so I didn't really have anyone to talk to, especially because I can't understand anyone.
no subject
Kai laughs, pulling his hands back enough to lightly swat at his hair again. He'll mess it up if he wants to! But they drop into his lap after a moment, and he nods, the grin fading a little.]
It's nothing like mine, I lived in a city. Not a huge one, but big enough. Got to see my dad's island a few times as a kid, though...I really am sorry about being gone. I'm too used to being on my own around here and taking off when I wanted. I'll stick around more.
no subject
[Tenar just sort of raises an eyebrow at that, looking a little concerned. It's purely because of his mother's influence -- with the fact that her only fighting style is a lethal blade sort of style, he's well aware on how to handle knives and well aware the damage they can do if put in just the right spot.]
Are you okay?
[A city, huh... he shrugs a bit.]
My dad doesn't like being around people that much, so we lived in a house really deep in the forest. I've never really been in cities that much, except for when he and me or mom and me would go shopping or looking around. Even Auntie and Uncle lived away from places like that.
no subject
[Worked really well, too.] That'll teach me to block without a spell.
The forest, huh? That sounds...really nice. Having a house out there, I mean, and not just camping in a tent for days. Or not even that, depending. My friend 'Jem, back home, she lived in a little village, you should've seen her reaction the first time I took her to a city. Clung to me like a leech.
[He half-grins at the memory. She still wasn't used to places like that.]
no subject
Evidence about what? And yeah... if you're recording something, you're not supposed to say you're recording it!
Unless you're one of those journalist people, I guess.
[He grins, nodding a bit excitedly.]
It was nice! It was really quiet outside except for animals, so you could relax really easy. There was a lot of room to play around or train in, and me and my mom and dad would sometimes go exploring. It was really far away from the city, though, so Dad had to fly us there if we ever wanted to go.
I don't think I like cities that much. It's fun to play around in, but it's really loud and bright and closed in.
no subject
About him being a Creeper and just using Karasu. I didn't get what I was hoping for, but it might have screwed him over just the same. [He snorts as Tenar points that out; he knows that!] I know! I admit it was stupid, but by then I was just so mad at some of what he said, I couldn't help it.
[Kai grumbles to himself and shifts position to lean against the wall again.]
Sounds great. Though I think it makes me miss my childhood. [He smiles a bit to show he's mostly kidding.] I think mom felt the same way about cities, and that's why we lived in a small one. Or maybe she was just worried about me getting lost.
no subject
And if you're trying to protect someone... you're putting them in trouble, too.
[The tone to his voice makes it sound like he's speaking from experience -- and really, he is. He knows it all too well.]
no subject
It's funny, I don't think things like this bothered me so much back home. I didn't have friends, really...I mean, there were kids I went to school with, and did homework with, but no one I ever invited over just to goof off. And after...
[Kai's voice trails off, and he doesn't say anything for a long moment. He can keep running all he wants, nothing ever changes it. Hell, that incident in December with the 'fake' Heartless proved that.
Nope, not dealing.]
He just irritates me beyond belief for some reason. I'll work on it, you're right. Better to keep a level head.
[He glances over at Tenar, sighing.] Voice of experience, huh?
no subject
[Tenar shrugs a little, not bothering to hide it.]
They did that before. They hurt Chihaya and made fun of her, and I got so mad I couldn't even think straight. So I did... some bad stuff and hurt some people I didn't want to because of it.
