[Whoops. She's running a little late it seems, for today, the intercoms buzz into action a little late.]

Ahem. Attention, students!

[The husky voice of - well, the Voice that speaks over the intercom - echoes through the halls.]

Now that we're all done with our bout of spring sickness, it's time to buckle down to our studies! Remember that tests may appear at any time, and it would be such a shame if you were all to fail and be kept back another year.

And don't forget to be welcoming to our new arrivals, won't you? They're quite behind the times, after all.

[Which unfortunately would be the boy with a comic book open in front of his face. Yes, he's gifted with the ability to read and walk at the same time. Cards landing on him though, well, that's a little distracting.]

How'd he get in the lounge?]

Hey. Thanks.

Oh, hey, Kai! Can you bring my cards back?

[She'll be grabbing the ones that are still on the table or near her feet.]

No, they're mine now. I'm holding them hostage.

[Even as he says it, he's gathering them up for her, peering under one of the machines to make sure none slid under there.]

What're you doing, trying to give people papercuts?

No, I'm just trying to practice some tricks.

[She smiles a little, stacking the ones she has back together.]

Dangerous ones, apparently.

[Ha, there is one back there. Kai eases it out and takes it over, handing her the cards before he takes a seat with his comic book.]

At least I had the comic in front of my face, you might've taken out an eye.

[He's teasing.]

[She chuckles a little, lightly kicking him under the table.]

It's not that bad! It wasn't like I was aiming for your eye or anything.

Hey!

[What kick back, you didn't feel anything...probably because he barely nudged her.]

So I need sunglasses from now on, just in case you start?

[...He should look into that, actually. He's never really tried any on. He might actually look cool.]

Now now, don't be silly. I don't go for the eyes, that's cheating. I go below the belt.

[Shuffling the cards again all fancy-like! At least she got this part down.]

[And now the comic book is suddenly in his lap without him actually being obvious about it. All right, too obvious. Then Kai snorts and slumps in his seat.]

Remind me to wear a cup or something around you from now on.

[Did he just say that? Yes, he did. And now that comic's finding it's way to smacking him in the face.]

[She blinks, then laughs a little, smiling. She certainly seems to feel better, if nothing else.]

Will do~.

[Kai drops the comic enough to watch her mess with the cards, smiling a little through his embarrassment. He's never going to be able to keep his mouth shut around her, is he?

Oh well.]

So what tricks are you trying to do, exactly?

I don't know... anything, really. I feel a little stir crazy, so I figured having something to do would help.

The only card trick I was ever any good at was throwing them around a room as a distraction while I made my escape.

[Small snickers here.] But I was a kid, so. We could harass Ryou and see if he wants to do the whole Mages and Warriors thing soon, or...I still want to take those pictures of the island, you know, you could help pick out spots. Guess it's warm enough now.

[By that he means not below freezing. Chilly air, what's that? He barely notices sometimes.]

That could be fun. And I wouldn't mind helping you find some nice spots to take pictures of, if you wanted. We could even spot them from the air.

[Oh Karasu, he loves you for suggesting that. Wait. Just- yeah. Focusing on something else, go.]

That'd be a great idea, it'd make reaching some places a lot quicker. I could try and get some shots from the air...

Uh, but the game with Ryou, yeah. I've definitely got at least one idea for that. Been practicing, I think I've got the snow in the hallways thing down now.

[Sort of. He 'sort of' has it down. In small doses, it should be okay...as long as no one yells 'Boo!' while he's casting it.]

I should try that myself sometime. It might be fun to have it snowing outside whenever I felt like it. As long as I didn't make it go over the whole Campus.

[She's trying to practice hiding a card in her sleeve then taking it out without being seen, but that's easier said than done.]

What did you have in mind?

Now I'm just picturing snowflakes following you everywhere. It's a pretty picture.

[Kai's not intentionally trying to be a sap, it's just coming out that way. The comic book half-rises as though he's going to smack himself again before he lets it fall, watching her hide the card. Yeah, that's kind of obvious. Not going to point it out, though.]

Well, I mentioned the Ice Troll story I made up, and I think I can get small sections of the hallway cold enough to go along with things...so while we're wandering through, I can set up the story about the how since the Trolls are invisible, the only warning you have before they attack is when it suddenly snows...

And then, well, wham.

[That sounds a lot less impressive out loud. Kai groans and slouches down farther.] It sounded a lot cooler when I was scaring Tadakuni with it, trust me.

I'm the ice queen~.

[The fact that he's looking at it is enough of a hint, and she keeps trying.]

Well... it doesn't sound too bad, Kai. I like it!

I should've found you a white cloak, but then maybe you'd blend in too much...

[Naw, he's happy with the color he found for her. Besides, the less time spent in rooms in the North Wing, the better.]

Really? Thanks.

[He gives her a pleased little smirk from his spot before tilting his head at her sleeve. Huh, better. Speaking of hiding things...]

Know of any really good hiding spots around here? Not in the building itself, but maybe outside? After that last bit of nonsense with the building being weird, I need somewhere else to stash some of my stuff. I'd like to be able to get to it next time.

I like the cloak you got for me, so don't worry about it.

[She smiles back in return, then shakes her head a little.]

Sorry, I don't, really. There's some caves out in the forest, but that's about all I know.

[Pleased little smirk gets bigger there for a second before he glances down at the comic cover.]

It's okay, I'll just have to hunt around some more. I still can't find one of my potions, it wasn't where I'd left it when I finally got back to the classroom I'd hidden it in.

[He's just realized talking about hiding things around the school is probably making him sound like he's gone paranoid. Uh.]

I've kind of just been...um. Sometimes it's not a great idea keeping all my stuff together.

[That really doesn't help, does it.]

[No, but luckily for him, Karasu understands completely.]

No, I understand. With the way this place works, disappearing or twisting around, it's better to have caches of stuff hidden in case of emergencies, right?

Exactly.

[Good, she doesn't think he's nuts!]

Bakura inspired it, actually. What with Ha Des banging my door in, I thought it'd be a good idea. [Kai doesn't even sound angry about that anymore. If anything, he sounds amused.]

[Sigh. Oh, Bakura...]

It is. I'd do the same, but I don't have much to hide, myself.

If I wasn't so attached to my sketchbooks and the stuff I showed up with, I might not either.

[Kai lets out a soft sigh, nudging the table leg with his foot.]

I was going to try making a three layer cake in the next day or two, you want me to save you any? It's going to be chocolate with strawberry in the middle. Nothing exciting, but after the pot roast incident, I think I should stick to stuff I'm good at.

[Wait, almost burning down the kitchen is what he's good at.]
