CAMPUS WIDE EVENT: THE LANGUAGE BARRIER REINSTATED

[Today, something somewhere went wrong. On the evening on the 15th, any bilingual (or otherwise) knowledge granted by the Campus has simply...disappeared. At least for anybody walking by the North Wing.]

[Translation: Well...this is going to put a damper on our studies, now isn't it?]

((ooc: So! For the next 5 days (the 15th~20th), your character officially only knows their native tongue. Aka, whatever language they primarily grew up with. They can no longer read, speak, or understand any other language but.

For fun you can even use Google Translate to show what your character is speaking at a glance! Don't worry, we all know it's probably gibberish :P

[The look he shoots at him is a quite blatant silent 'seriously?'. But he doesn't really have much of a choice. Wrapping himself up in it, so that he can barely see out of it, he hesitantly steps out into the hallway again.]

We'll try to find something that won't hinder you quite as much.

[For now, he waves goodbye to Lisa, who just seems way too happy to have them out of her office. Glancing around, Violet mentally goes through the map he knows in his head for a moment or two.]

I passed by what seemed to be a lot of small rooms a while ago. One of them might have something. Let's go see.

[Looking around, he can't see any of the flicky-things in this hall. That probably means this brightness can't be drowned out. What sort of magic is this? Some kind of Light Temple?!]

You didn't see any puzzles or anything around, right? This place could pass for a Temple.

I thought the same thing, but no. I haven't seen anything like that. What I did find was what appeared to be some sort of dining room, on top of a surprisingly large library. It almost seems like this place is a castle, but with the crowded feel of it, I can't imagine that it could be. But it's too ornate to be a barracks, either.

[He's trying his best to remember the shortest route there, not wanting to force Shadow to stay exposed for any longer than he has to. Even if that blanket seems to be working to keep him shielded, it's only a very temporary solution.

Speaking of that...]

Feel that blanket, for instance. It certainly wouldn't be laying on any royal's bed, but that's more than a soldier would have.

Even if it were a castle, what would be the point of having that much enchantments to light up the inside? Even humans need the dark to sleep!

[Unless the inhabitants of this place weren't human. Grasping the blanket in his hands, he rubs it between his fingers, frowning.]

It's definitely not low-class... I can't see a villager using this kind of thing. It's too thin for cheap housing, and too soft to be common things. But you're right, it's not of the right quality for some high-class person to use.

As that one room proved, these can all be turned off instantly, all at the same time, with just one switch pressed. If that's the case, then someone with enough wealth and enough fear of the dark could put together something like this without actually hindering their ability to sleep. All they have to do is touch the switch and everything goes dark.

...But that's part of the problem. This sort of setup would require someone who was very skilled in their magical arts, and that wouldn't come without a very steep price. And that isn't all, either. Listen carefully.

[He quiets for a moment, then taps on the wall.]

There's no sound of the wind. None of the breeze is coming through. That would require more than just magical talent, and it wouldn't be something easily bought, especially combined with the magical lights.

Which brings up the questions: Why was that room, obviously meant for rest, so small if they could afford to live better than royals? And why get cheap on the fabrics, especially sleeping ones?

It's incredibly mismatched.

[It seems pretty obvious to him.]

They're either foolish, or they wasted all of their money on the spells and walls. But... I've never seen walls like this before. There's not even a crack. It's like it's not even stone.

That's possible.

[Now he's examining the wall a little closer. Now that Shadow mentions it...]

Or maybe it was because the fabric, at least, wasn't needed. [He runs his hand down the wall.] You're right. This isn't any type of stone I've ever seen or felt. And on top of that...

It's warm in here, despite being cold outside. I'd been so focused on the other people here and their languages that I hadn't even noticed it, but there's nothing I've seen that would warm this place. No torches at all, and we're well above ground and away from a mountain.

...What sort of spell-weaving is this?

Languages? You mean they're all like that woman back there?

[What an annoyance... To be suddenly in a place full of fools who couldn't even speak. Reaching out, keeping his hand under the fabric of the blanket, he runs his fingers down the pale substance of the wall. It's soft and smooth, without even the roughness of bricks or stone. His own sword, rarely used as it is, comes to his hand and he strikes it against the wall suddenly.]

Hah-!

[Interesting... The sword leaves a jagged line where it hit, but doesn't penetrate beyond a tiny distance. There's no sparks, like there would be with stone.]

It's strong, whatever it is.

Yes, they are. But what's more interesting is that they seem panicked, even despite the fact that some of them clearly have been here a while. A language problem like this shouldn't cause that much chaos...

[He watches as Shadow strikes the wall, then runs his finger down the line. "Strong" is an understatement.

...But now he can't help but wonder...]

Stay back a little.

[Violet draws his bow, looks up at one of the lights, and moves to put himself as between it and Shadow as he can get. That done, he releases an arrow directly at it, intending to test just how durable this enchantment system is.

It hits with the sound of shattered glass... and is followed by some unholy noise as the light goes out and sparks fly. It's enough to make Vio draw his sword, at least until it all dies down.

...and then... absolutely nothing.]

...That was no spell I've ever seen.

Ah-!

[The sparks make him jump back, staring. With that one light broken, this small section of the corridor is dimmed enough for him to forsake the protection of the cloak and reach out for the glass that is now scattered across the ground. It's hot...]

It's like a bottle... But it's burning. Like something was inside of it. Something hot... Were those some kind of fairies?

It could be fire in a bottle... but why use so much fire for this, when light can be substituted and isn't a danger?

[He goes over to look at the glass himself, but refrains from touching, thanks to Shadow's warning.]

And there's no ashes, either... or any sign that there was a fire. But if it was a fairy, then where did it go? Just smashing the container wouldn't have caused it to disintegrate.

And I've never even heard of fairies that put off heat or that would be captured like this. There would have to be at least hundreds.

Aah... It could be something new! There's all sorts of magic you don't know about, right?

[Curling his hand over the piece of glass in it, he grips it tightly enough to crack it a little, though it hurts his hand. What kind of madness is this place?]

Maybe someone made a new type of fairy. Or brought it through from another world, like me.

A lot, I'm sure, but this sort of thing... it seems out of the scope of most sorcerers that I've even heard of. Whether it's an entire enchantment or a new type of fairy, brought or created. So it would have to be someone very powerful.

[...Oh dear. He doesn't like where this thought process is going.]

And if they're the one who also separated us from Link and teleported us here...

[He doesn't finish that sentence, but the look on his face is enough to betray his thoughts.]

...that can't be possible.

[Gufuu... Ganon... weren't both of them stopped? With the Dark Mirror shattered, Gufuu should have been destroyed by the Links. There was still Ganon, but if the Links had put the sword back, and reunited, that meant Ganon must be dead. Vio wouldn't let them end it without making sure that was the case, right? He'd told him about Ganon.]

Ya'll took care of him, right?

Yes, we did. After you stopped Gufuu, the four of us and Princess Zelda sealed Ganon away. I'm absolutely sure of that. After all, the five of us came back together.

...but this sort of magic... it must have a powerful sorcerer...

Then we need to find out who! Not that I don't appreciate being brought back, but I don't wanna be anyone's pawn again!

[They need to know why.]

On that, we're agreed. If Princess Zelda or the others are in trouble, we need to help them.

...but we can't do anything with you like this. Let's hurry and see if we can find something better to cover you in.

... [He nods, dropping the piece of glass on the ground and stepping on it as he heads down the hall. Drawing the blanket closer around him - good grief, he probably looked like he was pretending to be a ghost! - he looks around for some sign.

...it's no good, he can't read any of the writing here.]

Have ya'll ever seen symbols like that before?

No. I've never seen anything like them.

[At least the sameness of the corridors don't bother him too much. He's almost certain this way down here is where he saw those rooms...]

It's too different from Hylian for me to even know where to start with it. If it even is the language... for all I can tell, they could have had a cucco write it.

It's hard to tell. They're all funny shapes and a lot of them seem to be rounder than Hylian. Maybe it's just some weird sort of art... or maybe you're right about the cucco.

[Vio might not be getting annoyed, but he is. It's like they're making no progress at all. Can't they put some pictures up or something? The mark his sword made on the wall hasn't reoccurred, so he knows they're not walking in a magical loop at least.]

Where d'ya think we could find something better than this? Did ya'll see something before?

At this point, nothing would surprise me.

[He knows Shadow must be getting frustrated, so he turns back to give him a reassuring look. Of course, the actual act is more important than his expression...

Don't say he never looks back at you.]

I saw a hallway with a lot of rooms that were almost exactly the same in design. Some of them were open and had other people in them, and I saw anything from resting to eating.

If those are where the people here live, I'm sure at least one of them has something we can take for a bit.

[The gesture isn't lost on him, and he relaxes a little, smiling. That was right... even in the world where shadows like him were ignored and left to walk behind, he'd never be left alone or looked down upon like that again. Because they were the same. A 'shadow' like him had gained the right to be recognized...]

Then that's our goal! Haha, come on, then! Where's these rooms?

[And there's the rows and rows of different doors just now. Violet goes over to one, testing the knob and pushing it open when he finds it unlocked.]

This is it -- I recognize whatever these objects are. It's just a matter of seeing if we can find where they store their clothing.

[-- oh right. Violet glances around, then flips the switch off before anything else. The blinds on the windows seem to be closed, so that should make it dark enough to give Shadow a bit of a break.]

[Shutting the door behind them, he tugs the blanket off, tossing it aside.]

Aaah~ That's much better!

[He stretches, looking around. It's easy for him to see in the dimness of the room. It was definitely a weird one. He's never seen tables and chairs in this style, and what was with the long chair? Going over to it, he pokes it curiously, and finding it soft, he flops down on it, swinging his legs up to rest his boots on the arm of it.]

This is the best! Talk about a comfortable chair!
