ISLAND WIDE EVENT: LIGHTS OUT
[In the later afternoon, with the sun already setting in the sky, there's the sound of something deep within the building powering down. One after another the lights pop off like a domino effect down the hall, with each room following in suite as the electrical outage worked its way through the building.
It only took a matter of seconds for the Campus to be enveloped in complete, inky darkness. Even with the proper time to adjust one's vision, it was still neigh-impossible to see. There was nothing but cold, lonely blindness.
Outside, the sun set...and it didn't rise again the next morning. The only saving grace was the starry night sky and the waning moon too keep the denizens from being completely consumed by darkness.]
((The darkness has come...RUN! Everything's the same, but now both the INSIDE and OUTSIDE of the island/campus are dark. It's much easier to see outside though, thanks to the stars and moon in the sky. Characters are free to improvise light sources, but nothing electrical that needs to plug in will be functioning. If something runs on batteries, it'll last until those die.
This event will stretch until the end of Sept. 18th, feel free to tag in to this post, or to make your own threads! Have fun!))

Posters, candles, and syringes. What kind of game was this?
While he figured Yugi would explain anyway, he decides to jump ahead and ask in his usual deriding manner.]
I assume you're going to at least tell me the rules of this "game" before we start.
no subject
[He takes the candles, box, and one of the posters from Ryou when he goes over, making sure to lightly flick the Ring as he pulls the other up and indicates for Ryou to hold the edges so the actual poster is on display.]
no subject
[He blinks in confusion at that little flick.
Inside the Ring, someone bristles like an annoyed puppy, but doesn't come out. As if he'd interfere in someone else's game anyway!
Ryou takes the edges, holding the poster up in front of him curiously. It's a pretty normal anatomical model. The type you'd find on any hospital wall.]
no subject
[Yugi casually opens the case, pulling the needle from its position and attaching it to the other half of the syringe.]
Each of us has a poster that will be put on the wall in front of the other person. We take turns throwing these syringes at our opponent's poster. If we miss, our turn ends without anything happening. If we manage to hit a spot on the poster, then that part of the owner's body will be paralyzed. The game ends when one of us can no longer throw the syringe.
[He glances from Kaiba to Ryou.]
Bakura, if you could be so kind as to put those on the wall opposite us and set up the candles around near them?
no subject
[Derisiveness aside, Kaiba's not worried in the least. He had impeccable aim! All he had to do was nail both of Yugi's arms and he'll have won! He'll take out Yugi's right arm first to cripple his aim...and then go in for the second.]
no subject
[Despite that soft murmur of concern, Ryou trusts Yugi enough that he just nods and goes to hang the posters up. He carefully sets the candles in a semi-circle around them, so the posters are illuminated, before stepping away. One for Kaiba and one for Yugi...
Once those are done, he gives Yugi a nervous thumbs-up and goes to sit on the floor, as far away from the two walls and any possible projectile paths as possible.]
Good luck, Yugi-san!
[Kaiba, you're being enough of a jerk today that he isn't going to wish you good luck.]
no subject
[Dark inclines his head towards Ryou, the box of syringes suddenly prepared and sitting between him and Kaiba on the one rotating table that was over the bed. When did he...?]
I'll go first, then, shall I?
no subject
Rotating his wrist idly, he decides to remove his duel disk on the off chance of a worst case scenario: Yugi manages to take out his dominate hand on the first turn.
Not that he couldn't throw with his other hand.]
Go ahead. You might as well get one throw in before I cripple you.
no subject
[Dark takes a syringe, balancing it in his hand and squinting a little. With the only candles being over at the poster or the one by them, it's a little hard to judge the actual toss in the darkness.
After a moment, he throws, intending to hit the poster's left arm. As it is, his throw is a little off because of the weight of the syringe and it drifts down, nailing the left hand instead.
Kaiba feels a sharp, burning agony in that hand, as if it was just stabbed by a hundred red-hot needles. Any attempts to move it will come up useless; it's completely paralyzed now.]
Hm... that's a bit strange to throw.
no subject
...Lucky shot. [The words are bitter, and as the pain fades Kaiba lets his hand fall back to his side. If Yugi got lucky on his next shot...he would lose.
Kaiba grabs his first needle, weighting it in his hand first and remaining confident in his ability to not make the same mistake. The darkness did make it a bit difficult, but Kaiba just squinted and lined up his shot before tossing the needle at the board.
Bullseye. He hit Yugi in the center of his right palm.]
But you need more than luck to win against me, Yugi!
no subject
[Dark lets out a grunt of pain, exhaling when it pauses and glancing at his right hand. So much for that.
He reaches over, grabbing another syringe and weighing it. He thinks he has an idea of how to throw it now, but he needs to test it... Kaiba only needs another throw, but Yugi's luck has always held out.
After a moment, he tosses it and it nails dead on to Kaiba's knee, sending the horrific pain not just through that, but all through his lower leg, too. Of course, only his knee ends up paralyzed... but it seems everything down the line of whatever's hit gets the pain too.]
A good thing that's not all I'm relying on.
no subject
He's forced to just kneel there on the ground and grab his next syringe. The new angle made it a bit awkward to aim, since now he had to aim by not only taking the downwards trajectory into account...but the upwards, which was significantly harder.
Taking a minute to line his shot for Yugi's other hand...he throws.
But only hits his middle finger.]
...! [Kaiba gnashes his teeth. Dammit!]
no subject
Fishing out the next one, he calculates for a moment, then throws high and hard. After a tense moment, it thunks dead into its target...
Which is Kaiba's left eye.]
no subject
Haa-aaghhh! [This was different; the pain made it feel as if his eye was going to split skull apart. Kaiba was left there, clasping his hand over half his face, his fingers twitching with the sheer restraint as he waited for the feeling to subside.] Ghh...
no subject
[So far, Ryou had carefully sat and watched, trusting faithfully in the two of them to not kill one another. This time, though, is different. Kaiba's pained cry was ear-gratingly painful.
He scrambles to his feet, running over to check on him.]
no subject
no subject
Aiming with only one eye...this wasn't good.
He grabs his next needle all the same, aiming for Yugi's forearm instead of his hand. When he throws the dart, it hits Yugi's side instead.
A drop of perspiration makes its way down the side of his face. Every shot he missed brought Yugi closer to victory...!]
no subject
['Trespass on my soul'...? What the hell did Kaiba do to deserve this? He obediently backs away, feeling hurt and worried, and goes to sit back against the wall. Drawing his knees up to his chest, he watches.
Even without physical damage, this is too cruel...]
no subject
When the pain subsides, he breathes slowly. Things were already being decided... and he weighs the syringe in his hand, turning that burning gaze to the teen beside him.]
You're panicking, Kaiba... what happened to being the "number one gamer in Japan?"
[Another hard toss... and it goes directly into Kaiba's other eye.]
no subject
Kaiba grasped the other side of his face this time, biting into his lip to try and distract from it. He still let out a cry--although shorter and much more restrained than the time before.
It takes him much longer to recover from the pain this time, but even after he does...he's been blinded.
This was utter humiliation.
He could still throw his syringe though, and after blindly grabbing for one he tries to remember just where the target was...
The needle flies through the air, hitting Yugi's left upper arm.]
no subject
...my left arm. A lucky shot, Kaiba.
no subject
[He won then! Against all odds; that's what it meant to be a true gamer.]
no subject
[And with that, he does, letting the syringe arch...]
Game over, Kaiba.
[And impact into Kaiba's right hand, removing the last bit of function he has.]
no subject
[Kaiba's lips pull into a grimace, and he can only sit there and wait for the inevitable pain to surge through his body again.
When it does, he just gnashes his teeth, both from the pain and the agony of defeat.]
no subject
[And suddenly, all the pressure and pain and paralysis is gone, Yugi sitting on the edge and the bed and staring at him scornfully, arms crossed and one leg over the other.]
...How pathetic.
