CAMPUS WIDE EVENT: EVERYTHING AND THE KITCHEN SINK

[Hopefully everybody likes waking up outside.

Because as it were, in the middle of the night when everybody had been asleep or lulled into a sudden one by the sheer weight of the air around them...the Campus disappeared in its entirety. Left behind was only the cool surface of the concrete foundation.

For now it seems the residents were left to fend for themselves in the wilderness of the island. Not even the voice from over the intercom would comfort them.]

((ooc: the school has disappeared, along with all the NPCs and everything that was inside! no opt-out areas this time around. The temperature is cool during the day, and colder at night.

The event will last until October 20th, and I'll post a closer to signify it. Everything will be returned to its rightful place then.))

Oh, good, at least then I can-- [Malik blinks when he's told to be quiet, and does so obediently if only because he knows it's a matter of their owns safety.

Staying still and in place, he watches the cave entrance for any signs of life. If something tried to come at Bakura's blind spot, he could at least warn him.]

Hahahahaha! [Bakura laughs, leaving Malik's sight for a moment. There's a strangled noise, before he returns with...

A dead chicken.]

False alarm... it seems it got caught in the trap.

Did you have to bring it in here? [Malik shoves his orange slices aside and lays back on his side, staring grumpily over at Bakura.]

Ugh, now I'll have to smell it...

Quit complaining! Here.

[He grabs Malik's nuts and gives them to him before sitting down nearer the entrance to begin plucking the bird.]

Chicken meat is pretty bland, but beggars can't be choosers, I guess.

[Malik takes the nuts, turning them over in his hand quizzically. He wasn't familiar with this particular type...

They didn't seem easy to open either. He literally has to grab a rock to break the shells when his fingers and teeth fail him. Nothing quite like working for your food.]

Just try not to stink up the place.

Shut up! It's not my fault your taste buds and sense of smell are fucked up!

[Setting the fire going again, it having almost died out during the night, he sits back to finish his work. That done, he grabs a stick he'd fashioned into almost a spike the day before, spears the chicken and uses some rocks to prop it up over the fire.]

My tastebuds and sense of smell are fine. You're the weird one!

[These nuts are a pain in the ass. Malik's only opened a few so far. At least they're pretty robust on the inside, otherwise it wouldn't be worth it.]

Don't be an idiot! Meat is a staple in most of the world's cuisine. Eating meat has been a thing since before society existed!

[Sitting back, he leans on his hands and watches the chicken cook.]

Tch...well I don't like it. I can't change that.

[Malik turns his back to Bakura, intent on ending the conversation.]

But you can stop bitching about it like an old wife!

[Bakura just grumbles, looking over the weird plants Ryou pointed out. These were supposed to add flavour, right?

...just going to taste one of them, and immediately spit it out. Ugh, not that one, then.]

I'm not your wife!

[He's definitely ending the conversation now! Malik stuffs a few nuts in his mouth, chewing furiously.]

I never said you were!

[He scowls, turning back to the meat and waiting for it to cook.]

[Malik opts to just be quiet now, simmering in his own agitation for a time before eventually just laying down to rest. He was still sick after all, and the arguing hadn't helped his headache any.

Some time passes, and Malik wakes up having not even realized he fell asleep. He sits up and looks over at Bakura who was still eating.

He couldn't have been out that long if he was still eating, and the cave smelled...not too bad, actually. Maybe it was just whatever seasoning he'd used, because he could certainly smell that.]

[For once, Bakura was eating slowly, savouring the flavour. Hm, these spices weren't too terrible.

It was a good thing Malik had slept through him reluctantly waking Ryou to ask him about them. Right now, he hadn't even noticed he was awake.]

[As Malik eyed Bakura's meal he grew even more conflicted. It didn't look like any of the meat he'd seen Bakura eating before that lead his stomach to turning. It was white, not red or brown...and the more he sat there, the more that smell made his mouth water.

He'd barely eaten all day, and that meat didn't look half bad right about now.

Getting up despite his aching body, Malik makes his way over to Bakura and takes a wordless seat next to him.

Nope, that food still looked edible, even from here.]

[Bakura looks over as he heads to sit beside him. Malik has an odd look to him right now, as if something is confusing him. He isn't sure what to think of this.]

Something up, Malik-sama?

[He manages to turn his gaze away from the cooked bird and look Bakura in the eyes.]

Is that what all bird meat looks like?

Mostly. The meat from the legs is darker, but poultry tends mostly to be white meat.

[Has Malik really never seen a cooked bird before? Carefully, he reaches out, peeling off a small bit of the meat and offering it to him.]

Try it, if you like. White meat tends to be milder than red meat, and has less fat to it. So you might find it edible, especially with the spices. It's supposed to be good when you're sick, too.

Hm... [Malik looks to be seriously considering the offer as he holds the strip of meat between his fingertips.]

I guess it couldn't hurt. [Not-so-bravely, he takes a tentative bite at the food. When it doesn't immediately repel him, he takes the whole piece into his mouth and thoughtfully chews it.

His eyes light up and he looks back at Bakura in awe.]

...It's good!

[...wait, really?

...

Really?!

Bakura's expression is no less startled by Malik's appreciation.]

Seriously?! ...Maybe your aversion is just to red meat. And fish, I guess.

[obeytherod]

I guess... [He looks down, still blinking with bewilderment.] I didn't even know that birds were a different kind of meat.

[After his shock fades, Malik reaches out towards the bird, but pauses before actually touching it.]

I'm going to eat some more, okay?

[fluffydeathdealer]

Help yourself. It might help you recover faster. I can always go catch more.

[Heh... at least this means he doesn't have to totally refrain from eating meat, it seems.]

[Once he has permission, Malik looks back to the chicken and starts to eat. His appetite may have been curbed by the fruit and nuts, but he was still eating a good half of that chicken.

When he's had his fill he leans back with a sigh, looking satisfied.]

Hmm~ That was much better than just eating fruit all day.

Hahahahahahahahahaha! That's better, Malik-sama! It's been a while since I've seen you so satisfied!

[Bakura will be happily finishing off the rest.]

Keh... [Bakura's laughter is almost contagious, but Malik still feels sick enough to resist. After sitting by his partner's side for a bit he eventually gets up and returns to his "bed", nestling up under the blanket for another nap.

His headache still hadn't gone away...

The next day, Malik was still curled up on his side by well after noon with his face flushed and his forehead worryingly heated.]
